mci worldcom is being indicted for fraud. they've been declaring their expenses as assets. guess who their accounting firm is.

no i'm serious, go on and guess.

Expenses... assets...

no need to worry about minor details, right?

I'm gonna guess Arthur Anderson by their sterling reputation.

Enron?

It's always Enron's fault isn't it?

enron is an energy company. they were doing the same thing as mci, and they had the same accounting firm.

I gotta get those guys to do my taxes for me this year. If they can turn my expenses into assets, I'm gonna be loaded!

I know.. I just thought I'd blame Enron despite the not being a firm..

It was either them or Adelphia.... who I know also has nothing to do with acounting.

Anderson is a crooked lot it seems, not just the Houston branch...

AP "Clinton, Mississippi-based WorldCom is the latest company linked to auditing firm Andersen to face accounting problems. Andersen, whose role as the auditor of Enron helped lead to the energy trader's collapse, audited WorldCom's financial statements for 2001. It also worked with Qwest Communications International Inc. which is under accounting investigation by U.S. regulators, and Global Crossing Ltd., which filed for bankruptcy in January."

That type of stuff certainly doesn't help investor confidence for the stock market. In some ways investing becomes Russian Roulette: which companies get busted fudging the books dictate your financial future. They get away with it, you eat steak. They get caught, it's Alpo.

I'm glad they are. I hate MCI.

I tried them out for a while, and when I got the bill, I didn't understand where a shit load of charges were coming from, so I called them to get an explaination.

I couldn't get a hold of anyone. I was used to AT&T, who I could at least call and protest when I thought they overcharged me, or something showed up I didn't understand. Sure, all the carriers have all these bullshit charges they get away with, but it really pissed me off I couldn't talk to someone.

So I canceled them, and a few days later, THEY call me.

I explained to the poor woman that called to find out why I canceled, that I find it rather odd that as a customer, I can't talk to them, but as soon as you aren't getting my money anymore, I have your attention.

No thanks for your lack of customer service. At least AT&T listens to my complaints.

I had another problem with them and 900 numbers being charged to my account. (I think my son must have perpetrated that one, though he denies it.) I was NOT customer, and there were 4 calls $30 apiece charged on my phone bill. I call MCI to dispute them, no record of them, SINCE I'M NOT A CUSTOMER.

What?!?! You mean you randomly charge phone bills that are NOT your customer, and have NO record of them? Consumer can't dispute a charge on their bill from you, cause YOU have no record? What kind of practice is that? How do I get in on this? Can I charge random phone consumers money on their phone bill, when they don't have an account with me? How'd you do that?

Sorry didn't mean to rant.....it's MCI's fault.

Moon

PS, I did finally get those 900# charges off my back. Took me two months or more.

Yup 3 billion dollars in fraud.

Ouch. Largest case of corporate fraud ever is what they say.

I agree with Moonwolf that they suck anyway. MCI slammed my dad and started sending him bills for 6.99 per month for long distance even though he didn't have thier service. He tells me this after a few months go by, so I call and they tell me they have cancelled the service and do I want to sign up for unlimited local service with free local calls for 9.95 per month?
I say no and another month goes buy, here is another bill. I call again, am put on hold forever and then hung up on. Twice. Now I am really pissed and berate some poor girl to get a supervisor who I rip on and tell her they have illegally slammed my father and I am taking everyone's name involved, especially since I am getting hung up on and the last woman tried to sell me local service for 29.95 per month - then said the 9.95 per month offer must have been made up by the sales person. The supervisor goes off and refuses to give me her name because I said I was writing the CEO to tell him how his employees run the company. To make a long story short, they claimed to have permission to switch his long distance in writing and that he did it two years ago, which my father denies. Here we are a year later and they still send him bills even though he doesn't have their service. They are crooks.

ever since the telecommunications industry was deregulated there has been a lot of seriously bad shit going on in the phone companies. charging people for services they don't want, or even ones they aren't recieving. bad shit.

They are crooks.

I knew I wasn't the only one to get ripped by them. I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole, unless it was to rip their foundation to hell and watch them fall.

My feelings exactly, Marxist. It's tragic for those who have to work to make a living. I am sick to death of the greedy fat cats who are wrecking the lives of thousands without batting an eye.

MCI is gonna layoff thousands over this shit. Sad.

Yes it is, very sad. 99.99% of the people employed for Worldcom, had no idea this was going on, and did not deserve to hear on the local news the situation that thier employer had gotten its self into.
