Well, Ontario does at least.

How does that even work? Do words mean different things up there?

The Queen's Speech at the opening of the current session of the UK Parliament (dictated by the Prime Minister) included 'progressive policies'.

The US version of 'progressive' as a term of political abuse is the oddity.

The way I've learned it, conservative means wanting to mitigate change, progressive means wanting to accomodate change and radical means wanting to force change.

Roughly. So it's a contradiction in terms, like libertatian socialism.

But eh, I guess neutral definition of stuff ges out the window when political branding gets hold of it.

That assumes that political parties actually represent what they are called. They don't. What they stand for should be in their manifesto. That usually runs to thousands of words to say nothing much...

See that's the thing, with a name like Progressive Conservative I can't even figure out what they pretend to represent.

I know nothing about Canada. I'm assuming Canada is a mixture of monarchy and democracy.

They've stayed out of the spot light for over a century, who knows what they're up too? They've had plenty of time to be creative about who's who and whomever their enemies are. I'd rather not piss them off.

We used to have the Conservative Party here, prolly more liberal in your eyes than the Dems. We then had an American Corporate backed National Heritage Party (white supremacists) politician named Harper who formed the Reform Party to try to change our long standing Conservatives. Stupid fucks split the right and eventually had to join up as the Progressive Conservatives. When we get mad at a party here we tend to vote in the opposite political party in a minority capacity. Basically we stalemate the House of Parliament. After several minority governments the PC's ended up with a majority and boy with their Corporate backed American style of politics they got their asses handed to them in the next election. Interestingly enough they put out a terrorist list with pro-choice, environmentalists and animal advocates at the top as they were considered a national threat to Canadian ( read American Corporate e.g. Enbridge) Industry. Funnily enough Neo Nazis didn't make the list and during Harper's early career he used Neo Nazis as security at political functions. You will be glad to hear that we have our own Trump in Ontario. Doug Ford, brother of Rob Ford the crack smoking Mayor of Toronto. He's a PC candidate and chances are he'll get in but mainly for shits and giggles cuz that's how we roll up here.
