Who said anything about 2000 friends? What is the color of the sky in your world? And what the hell does your last paragraph have to do with meeting in the meat world? You think you can't get that online/phone/texting/emails?
I see a friend of mine every day, I rarely tell her what's really going on in my life. I talk to one of my best friends once a week, he knows everything and we've never breathed the same air. I don't put qualifiers on friendship, it doesn't have to follow a pattern in order for me to love someone has a friend. And I certainly don't need to sit face to face with them.

But all of those things can happen in friendships that develop online. Not all friendships online are everyday Facebook "friends." Some of them are built on real connections and emotional affinities.
Needless to say, being in personal contact makes it easier. But absence does not make real friendship impossible.

I think you have unnecessary constraints on friendship.
I have a good friend I've known for years who cannot get a visa to get back in the States.
Is he no longer my friend?
