.....given that the dude died n'all but if you're not a Bowie fan all this adulation is a bit much. Anyway, sympathy to his fans but that's not everyone.

The radio and TV channels are saturated with D.B's stuff....if I hear Major Tom one more time...............

You know I would agree with you on almost anyone else, but this is Bowie, so I can't :D I think the very point of Bowie was that he didn't appeal to everyone and I doubt he wanted to.

I don't watch tv so I don't see this. I stopped watching TV after Mister Roger's death and everything was blaring about it, it was bad, one dimensional, and the same thing over and over. He did a lot of good things that they could have talked about but they didn't.
They just used his death to sell advertising and gain viewers, the same thing I imagine is happening with Bowie.

Whether one is a fan or not does not matter. Artists who've have a large impact on society get lots of coverage when they pass.

The fact that you made this thread means you don't understand said impact. That's fine, but it doesn't make your complaint legit.

For someone who had the impact as similar to John Lennon's death, it is not...a bit much.

Why wouldn't he want to appeal to everyone? I have heard this about more than a few entertainers and it has never made sense to me. Some may put themselves in a niche for one reason or another but I highly doubt any of them have ever said they don't want to appeal to everyone.

probably because they're not idiots and they realize it's fucking impossible to do so.

Are you talking about entertainers, or artists?

oy. this nonsense again. i'm playing a game, dude. go jerk off or something.

Most entertainers are technically artists but I understand what you're trying to say. An artist may not want that for some reason. I really can't imagine what that reason would be but whatever. An entertainer is in the business of trying to make everyone happy so they'd want to.

With all this adulation, not a word I've heard about Bowie's incredibly sublime performance in Labyrinth.

You felt the need to make a thread to say that you're not sad about something a bunch of people are sad about? Well.

Ok.

Fuck you.
