I believe that they are a road hazard. I also believe that they are are nothing more than a symbol for a big dick, regardless of who drives them.

That they have a big dick?
That they are a big dick?
That they wish for a big dick?

Little vague/ambiguoius there.

Hehehe

You have a Sportage don't you???
My gf has one of those and it is ok. Incredibly underpowered but nimble enough and it suits her needs. I have taken it on back roads, dirt roads, fields and fire roads before. The car does good as long as you stay on terrain like that.

Yeah her's has already come in handy. They had to replace the muffeler and some random interior parts that broke.

I have never driven a car on a regular basis with less then 200 hp, so I find it incredibly underpowered. She never notices though and rarely drives my car.

Hmmm..... some of the drivers may be road hazards, but the vehicles themselves are just machines, nothing more or less.

As far as dick size, I've always considered mine average, not especially big. My body however, is large and much more comfortable in a larger vehicle.

Hmmmm.....I have a Japanese SUV. Interesting. Are you saying my car has a dick? Or that I want one?

Sheesh, Freud would have a field day with this one!

There is nothing more grotesque than....

a Navigator/Expedition, a Durango or an Escalade tailgating you. I hate them!!!
And they are sooooo very ugly!!

Blue, you really need to learn to express yourself. What do you really think about them? C'mon, speak up.

(And I was only tailgating you because you were going slower than I wanted to. I'm an 'murkan, it's my god-given right.)

No fucking way I'm going slower than you

No fucking way!!! SUV's suck, and that's the truth.

Ok, time to chill a little. Take a deep breath.... think calm thoughts. All those bad old SUV drivers are off the ass of your Town Car now. No bent sheet metal, no harm, no foul.

Wanna beer? I'm buying.

(and you were going 1.6 mph slower than I wanted to, so take that!)

1) It is irrational to hate an inaminate object.

2) SUVs are no more of a "road hazard" than any other vehicle that is the same mass and size or larger, such as a pickup truck, a minivan, a luxury car, a full sized van, an RV, a car pulling a trailer, etc.

3) Ugly? Who gives a fuck (besides you) if you think they are ugly?

Well, it sounds like the easy solution to your problem is to simply slam on the brakes - hard and fast. Then, after the Nav has demolished your car - sue his ass for every last dime he has.

There. Problem solved.

Next?

Nope going to have to argue with that one there.

The SUV's that are of equivalent size to a large luxry car or full sized van are much higher off the ground. They also tend to have much larger tires. This causes two problems. Either the bumber completly misses the main structure of a normal car in a crash or the SUV may just drive over top a small car.

Pickup trucks genearly aren't as bad since most of them are smaller and are less top heavy. The truly massive ones like the F-350 quad cabs/Dogdge 3500 Dualies/ Chevy 3500 HD are much more rare and generaly driven by someone with a great deal of experience in big trucks. Most of those trucks are owned by companies or an individual who needs to tow something massive on a regular basis.(Horse trailer, Race Car, Medium Duty equipment)

Big trailers like that are normaly gooseneck trailers and so you have to have a pickup truck for them. I have worked on a many, many Excursions/Suburbans and most of them are driven by people who don't have a clue how to drive something that big. That is more true of the Excursion then the Suburban however. I have never had a problem getting a big dually pickup truck into my shop when it is being driven by its owner. I have had multiple problems with people driving their brand new Excursion in and almost taking out thesides of the garage door.

I have only had a couuple in danger of falling in the pit, but they are so wide that is normaly not a problem. Per captia though i have had more problems with people driving big SUV's in then people driving little cars in. We have had a lot more little cars almost fall in the pit from poor driving/not paying attention then big SUV's. However, my shop does many more times the number of cars then we do big SUV's.

Any SUV is not a car. An SUV has fastly different handling and braking performance then any car. A large SUV has different performance characteristics then a regular SUV.

Something that weighs over 6500 lbs, is nearly 8 feet tall, 15 plus feet long and over 6 feet wide cannot be driven like a normal car. People need to know this and a lot of people don't. I get scared when I see a 6000 some odd lbs Suburban tailgaiting me on a twisty mountain road. Eventough my car is 12 years old without ABS or four wheel discs it can stop much quicker then that brand new Suburban because it only ways 3300 lbs.

Fuck you and your opinions....

SUVs range in size from a small Subaru to relatively large (such as an Expedition), the ones I used to drive, a Bronco II and a Scout II weighed 3400 and 4200 pounds respectively.

SUVs range from an Ford Excursion that has a curb weight of about 7700 pounds and a high COG, to a Subaru Outback weighing under 3000 pounds with a low COG.

A Ford full sized pickup weighs anywhere from 5000 to 7000 pounds depending on the model and engine, have a high COG, and a very light rear end. It is not an SUV, yet I know I could drive quite a number of SUVs in a more spirited fashion, still be safe and not endanger anyone.

So saying that SUVs in general are a road hazard is like saying any car in general is a road hazard - the statement is too broad and there are too many exceptions to make it true.

Such statements are a gross generalization and usually show that the people making them probably know little about vehicle dynamics in general, and usually less about how to express themselves.

Finally, as others have said, it is the person driving any car that makes it hazardous, not the vehicle itself. If someone doesn't recognize that, then they probably shouldn't be driving themselves, regardless of what they drive.

"SUVs are a road hazard" is just someone ignorantly repeating a popular misconception.

maybe just a little "penis envy"..... ;) :p

jesus h christ. here we go again.

I do not have penis envy! (Well, except that writing my name in the snow thing, I might be a *little* envious about that!). I don't want to have a dick (well, one attached to me anyway <eg>) or a bigger dick, or the biggest dick.

What I wanted was something that can go anywhere, hold a ton of shit, I can sleep in comfortably when I'm on a road trip and it's either too nasty to sleep outside or I'm not somewhere I'd feel safe doing that.

I don't drive like an asshole, I don't think that 4WD means 4Wheel-Stop on black ice. I know how to compensate for my slightly increased wind catch and my higher center of gravity (I own a cherokee, something that existed long before that stupid SUV term came about anyway). It gets just as good a gas mileage as my old Taurus did. I know that while people are crying cuz they can't get over the snowbank into the parking lot cuz CE STILL hasn't plowed it out, I can march my happy ass right in and not have to tromp through an extra few hundred yards of snow. I like being able to get down that rutty nasty road to find a secluded place to park it to start a good pack-in camping trip. And no, I *don't* tear up the environment with it. It all works out pretty good. SUV's are only as bad as their owners are. And forgive me if I don't have sympathy for a higher mortality rate for the numbnuts on the road that can't drive worth a fuck and go around hitting the decent drivers.

I've been run off the road and/or hit by a small mazda truck, a caddy, a lincoln, an accord, a volkswagen bug (think that kid was stoned, lol!) in my life. Never by an SUV. Around here, most folks either drive a full-size truck or an SUV of some kind...but ya know, it's not really a problem since they also are smart enough to know how to drive in bad weather (Like right now, snowin like hell, ice on the roads and 50mph gusting winds, wheeeee!)

All that said, I personally don't care for the enormous monstrosities like the Excursion/Navigator/etc...mostly because of the pretentiousness of it, and the fact that I still don't know anyone that would buy an $80,000 SUV and actually take it anywhere NEAR offroad. They are wasteful, oversized (and more useless for it)...I still don't understand why those folks don't just get a caddy or something, heh. But *shrug* I also know how we Americans dig big things and like showing off affluency. So I am not surprised, even though I don't like them.

So nyah, next time I see you off the road, I won't stop to help you a'tall, since you wouldn't accept a pull or a ride in my damn dirty ugly "SUV" anyway!

*hugs*
Mae

I know all that. I work on cars to help pay for college and have been doing it since I was 17.

Thats why I was always saying things like "Big SUV's" and quoted off weights and dimensions.

Small SUV's aren't really any larger danger then a normal car, if they are driven responsibly. They have a higher COG and people need to know and respect that.

Outbacks and Forresters are cars they aren't SUV's at all.

Everything eventually comes down to the driver of course and in my experience many of the people driving Big SUV's should not be driving them.

fuck yeah man!

I support anyone who hates damn dirty SUV's!

did anyone see that new concept car they introduced at the auto show?
the one where you can change the body and uses fuel cells?
that looked like it kicked ass.
I don't remember now who had it...GM maybe?
