Gods I hate moving. The packing, thecleaning, the packing, the sorting. We have filled half a dumpster with things we have decided we could do with out. (How does all this stuff acumulate?)
We move on the 27th of this month, and have been packing things up for the past week. It won't be a horrible move like our last one. (We lived in a tent in southern Florida for a month then.) It is still a pain in the ass though.
We did get quite the deal on our new digs, paying less for more square footage, and we even have a fenced courtyard. (Privacy for once, yahoooooooo.)
Even though the new place will be much nicer than anything we have lived in before this, the packing and sorting is still a pain in the ass. We get to sort through our lives and decide what we wish to take with us, and what to ditch. A lot of memories get tossed, although there are some things which we can't help but remember. (That pair of plastic handcuffs given to us by a street mime after he watched us screwing in the parking lot in ProvinceTown on our first aniversary.) How does one throw things like this out?
Ahhh well, the new place will be nicer, larger, cheaper, and has a lot of possibilities. Maybe there's a story in here.

I hate moving too.

I am also in the middle of getting moved.

What is it with us old sailors and the wanderlust?

I hope your move goes a lot smoother than mine is going!

I, too, despise moving, but somehow seem to manage to move every couple of years anyway.

I've lived in 2 countries, and 8 states, within those states, 14 different cities. *sigh*

*sigh*

You people are doing it all wrong.

Moving is a blast.

And all in the hips.

;)

Okay Lady,

Two things.

1) I find your charm quite irresistible at times. :rose:

2) Don't think for a second that I need any help moving my hips. ;)

~lucky

p.s. If I didn't have to swim the Atlantic to assist you in moving your belongings, you know I'd be there in a second.

1.   :rose:

2. Then you can show me just how I should be moving mine

p.s. I know, sweetheart. Just a wave too far.

I'm about to move for the first time in my life. And the whole thing, starting with finding a reasonable, yet payable, room, buying new furniture, packing, moving about 400 km, doing everything almost all by myself, is pretty scary and terrifying at certain times.

Moving can be scary no matter how many times you do it.
But you'll soo see who your real friends are.
Those are the ones who will help you move and get squared away.

Good luck with your move!

Thnx a lot. :)

Well in the end as much as I might be scared, I just have to do this. There is no other way for me. And on the other hand besides the anxiety, I'm kinda excited. You know, first own appartment, living on my own, could be pretty much fun.

Twice, I've moved from a big apartment to a much smaller one. There's something about squeezing in stuff from a 3-room-apartmentinto a 2-room dito, that makes you realize that your cherished treasures are actually nothing more than accumulated junk that you'll be much happier without!

Ugghh, moving ranks right up there with....I'll say hemmeroids:p

I hate it too. I'm glad that your new place is better and wish you a safe and happy moving experience.

I don't know about you, but, a new home always feels like some place I'm just visiting at first and not actually living in so here is a dozen:rose: and hugs for the new place to make it feel homey.

Wicked:kiss:

I find it easier to just set fire to the old place and start new. No packing, no unpacking and everything is shiny and new.

That first move is always a mix. Scared and excited at the same time. My first solo move was a little further than yours, but I ended up having a blast. Cape Cod Mass. to Eggelsbach Germany. (About halfway between Frankfurt and Darmstadt.) No friends and no family to help at first. (I soon met the rest of the family, now that was a party!)
Good luck with your move.

Thnx a lot, same to you.

By the way,how did you like Germany ? Especially that part ?
(I'll be moving pretty close to Frankfurt myself, coming long way from the north)

Snoopy,

I loved the area. I met a lot of my family there and even met my first wife there. (Long story.) There are some things I would recomend come winter. Taunus Thermbads, (if they're still open.) Well worth the trip up there. Sachsenhausen during the Weinachstmarkt. What a blast. (Sachsenhausen at any time.)

I'm trying to remember the"Pits". It was a lot of fun to go there and watch the Amis. (F.K.K. Beach.)

If you want Jewelry, Eder-Oberstien is the place to go. (Not to mention they have one of the most beautiful ancient churches.)

Let me know where you end up and I'll try to remember some things about the area.

One hint, don't hike in thwe woods north of the Bahnhof in Eggelsbach. It's, (or used to be,) G.S.G. training area.

That's pretty cool, I'm glad you liked it here and made some good experiences. (I hope the first wife thing wasn't too bad in the end)

Well, I'll hopefully end up in Mainz which is about 40 minutes by train away from Frankfurt. It's in Rheinland Pfalz but in the corner to Hessen, Bayer, Baden-Würtemberg so it'll be not too far to nice places.

I loved Germany and plan on bringing my current wife over to see it sometime in the future.

Mainze huh? I know that area. My mother comes from Bad-Kreuznach, and I have family all over the place near there. Waldalgesheim, Bingen, Leverkusen, Cologn, (You have to love their beer.:p I thought Binding was good until I tried Kolsch.) I also have family in Bad-Kreuznach, and of all places Bad Tolz. (Don't ask how they got there.)

Keep me informed on how your move goes.

Will do. :)

I think it's pretty cool that there are some people on here who know Germany quite well and enjoyed it.

Only three months to go (if the univerity takes me, that is)...

Ha I recently moved over four thousand miles and across a good deal of ocean hehe. From Virginia to Hawaii. I've moved so many times in the last ten years I don't want to count but I told the wife we are staying put for a while this time. I'm sick of packing and unpacking.

Dammit, I just realized, I shipped my stuff nearly a month ago and it still isn't here. Better get to work on calling and tracking stuff down. That's the worst thing. Having a moving company move your stuff and then waiting on it to arrive, half the fun is unpacking and finding all your stuff again that you had no idea where it was.

It's not to bad this time we did it in two different shipments and my wife had been here for about six months without me. So some stuff, the majority actually was already here. Just mainly her and our children's stuff. None of the good things like the big computer, not this laptop and the tv's and all MY stuff.

Oh well it will be here soon and I will survive until it gets here. You only need so many clothes in Hawaii anyway lol.

Hope everyone's moves go well and I'll be checking back to see if all did go well after a while.

I heard from the solicitor (lawyer to the rest of you) this week.
My moving date and completion of sale????

FRIDAY
13TH

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, this is going to be a fun day.

Mat

PS. I have a slight premonition, there may just be a short soliloquy from Mat, along the lines of my 'Saturday morning's' rambles to recount the horrors of my moving day. Watch this space.
