its kinda scary i promised myself i wouldnt use it unless i needed too but its so tempting to look at all the online shopping pages

does a credit card make things even more tempting at this time of year ? too tempting ? :)

Throw it away!!!!!! Do it right now!!! :)

If you can't pay cash for it, you don't need it!

*coming from a woman who has all her credit cards maxed out :D*

Danger! Danger!

Cut it up, throw it away. Do not use it. Once you use it the first time it is like crack, you are addicted.

And if you did use it, and you paid your bill. Your mailbox would never be the same.

Do I need to drag out one of my fiscal responsibility lectures??? HMMMMM???

Here's a simple rule to follow which will keep you out of trouble with credit cards. Use them only for the convenience of not carrying cash or a check book with you. Charge only up to an amount that you can pay in full the next month. Never carry a balance over so that you never pay interest. Follow this rule and you will not care what the interest rate is on your card. You won't get into debt. Your life will be much simpler, but it will be yours. It won't be owned by the bank.

sexy-girl,

Cheyenne gave you very good advice. I can remember when I received my first credit card - a Sears card. I thought I died and went to heaven.

But, growing up in the kind of family I did, my mother, father, and grandmother taught all of the children in the family the value of choosing wisely and only buying what you can afford.

I can count on one hand the number of times I have used my credit card knowing full well that I couldn't pay off the whole amount at one time - that it would take two or three payments, but that was out of necessity and it was a planned purchase.

My credit card is mainly there for emergengies and when I don't want to carry cash with me, or at least a larger than normal amount.

Good luck and please be very careful not to go overboard.

If you are the type of person who can control your impulses...keep it

If you think that you will give in and blatantly charge and max it out..cut it up

I keep mine for emergiencies...like adult web site age verification;)

Be very careful.....

Credit Cards are the devil.

Just think of the Flintstones episode where Wilma and Betty go charging into the mall, cards held high, screaming "Chargeeeeeeeeeeee IT".

It may have been only a cartoon but they ended up in major debt and major trouble. Take an example from them....tread very carefully in the wilderness of credit cards.

Nic,

At the same time....congrats. It can be very empowering and a great convinience.

Nic,

Nic is right. Credit cards are little bribes sent straight from the devil himself.

Use it wisely, young grasshopper or you will be on this very same BB in a few months telling us your tale of woe. *grin*

Goodluck, sweetie!

thanks for the advice everybody :) ... i've already set it up so that my bank will pay the CC bill by direct debit each month

dont worry i wont go totally mad i've already promised myself that i'll never spend using the CC unless i have the money sitting in my bank account

the main reason i got it was because theres a monthly bill that i have to pay for my internet and they only accept CC my sisters been paying for it up till now but i'd prefer to pay it myself

however there is a temptation to do my christmas shopping via online considoring i havent even started my shopping yet i dont really want to face doing christmas shopping on my limited days off :) but as long as i stick to the rule of not over spending past my means i will be fine fingers crossed :)

Excellent way to start- kind of like having training wheels on that bike.

I still have my credit card (I really use just one card) set up the same way. For me it is the convenience of not having to write a check each month to pay the bill. I know it will be paid automatically. I also get the benefit of being able to look online any time of the day or night to know exactly what activity has been posted to my card.

FATAL...FATAL...FATAL...

Direct Debits are notorious for coming out of your bank when you haven't any money in there. So you end up paying Bank Charges.

Credit Cards are notorious for tempting you to spend.

You're a good person, a kind person, an Angel...

Throw the CC away and cancel any Direct Debit you've started.

Continue the good untroubled life you've started so well...

:(

but p_p_man if i chop it up i wont beable to pay my internet bill so there will be no more sexy-girl at lit ... also because im on a year contract with BT i cant just cancel it (till feb next year)

All is not lost...

I use a friends credit card, putting the money into her bank account first...

Just cancel the CC Direct Debit. Keep the others if you must...

oh woe, oh my, poor, poor, sexy-girl...the road to HELL is paved with bits of plastic, and Direct Debits and yearly contracts. Oh woe, woe.......

:(

Thats just for starters, until they see that you pay your bill. They will then start to raise your limit, at first just a little at a time. But before you know it it will be way the hell up there.

Listen to us old farts who have been bitten by the plastic cards.

Cred Cards don't tempt me cause whatever I buy I have the money to pay it off the next day if i wish.

I've always been money smart and rarly ever give into craveings.

so sexy-girl just be carfuel with that credit card, don't let it take you over.
