i got a new kitty need advice

devilboy bought me a kitten as an early birthday present. and its really sweet always sleeping. and out of the blue my mom started nagging that cat food and litter attracts rodents and bugs, is anything she say is true? she is always trying to bring me down, i need to keep the kitten in my room, please give me advice.

train your cat to potty in the toilet.. it can be done.. I did it with nimitz.

Make sure you keep the food crumbs cleaned up off the floor, or they will attract ants.

Feed the kitten only as much as it needs, don't just fill the bowl, unless you have to (time constraints).

Go to Purina.com .. they have some good info there.

No sweetie, Litter doesn't attract rodents and if the food does, hey that's what the cat's for!

Buy the clumping litter that you can flush down toilet and tell mom to chill. Betcha she'll love the kitty in no time at all.

I've had a cat for 10 years and we leave the hard food out and clean the litter box daily. Never had a problem with rodents or anything.

I put the cat food in a canister to keep it from getting stale. No attraction to bugs. Once in a while I get her wet food. The little cans. That way the can is tossed and I clean the "treat" bowl after she's done.

Litterbox? I clean it out and flush it and there has never been a problem.

I do that to my sisters kitten and the goddamn thing loves me and crys at my door for me. then lays wiht me and makes me pet him.

thanks for the advice so far, i kinda figured shes being uptight. I know to keep the litter box clean. I think it's wrong i have to keep Gabriel in my room, but it's the only way i can keep him. he's been hogging the my spot in the bed for awhile now.

his favorit game is Kitty accordian.

I hold him in the air by the legs and play him like an accordian.... and he sits there and watches me.... if I put him down... he jumps in my lap and trys to get in my hands again.

Ah! Aliens! I am a 2 time kitty-daddy now. No need to micromanage with them, but scoop poop daily and wash their dishes just like you would your own.

Respect them. Respect their space. If you don't they will not trust you. They have super-memory. Let them come to you. Milk them with patience and kindness.

Amelia has been with me nearly 6 months and Umberto 2. Two very distinct personalities with different preferences- but they love papa. And how I love them! I hope in 15 years they are both still with me.

i have four kitty cats. i love them all so very much, they're like children to me. just treat them with respect and don't listen to annoying old ppl with their wives tales. my grandma told me that i shoudl get rid of my cats becuase i'm pregnant and when the baby comes they are going to kill her. i told her thats ridiculous and as nicely as i could changed the subject. just give your new kitty cat lots of love and attention and it'll be happy, even if you do have to keep her in your room.

bump bump, the kitty is hogging the bed hehe i showed him when he got back from the litter box. he's in between the pillows now instead of the middle of the bed. I should get back to sleep, keep posting advice, I named him i just need to get him to respond to it.

We have a big fluffy white cat that we got from my sister-in-law because she has MS and it was always under feet and made her fall a couple times. It took "snowball" 2 weeks ro get acquainted which totally disturbed me because i've never had an animal dislike me. She does have an attitude. Her favorite thing is to sit on a bar stool sitting in the doorway of the kitchen and smack me when i walk by. She also likes to sit at the back of the chair and play with my ponytail. I have become quite attached to her but considering her pwesonality i have nicknamed her "Miss Bitch".
As far as the bugs and such never have a problem She's probably cleaner than the others in the house.

grr still cant sleep, i would like to but i'm staying up waiting for devilboy.my kitten likes waking me up every two hours, he ran under the bed and started beating up a cotton ball. he refuses to sleep in the box and he uses me. it takes some getting used to.

He's missin' his momma and you are the new momma, so he will try and sleep with you because he's used to doing that while still in the litter.

I got my second kitten in july (she was 10 weeks so cute so little) anyway she is like urs she hogs my bed. ....never had any problem with ants or rodents except the pet mice i have well a few got out and she well umm played a little to rough with them but other then that no problems. i never take up their food. the only problem i have with her is with having another cat she wont use the box if it has dump in it so i have to keep it extra extra clean. lol ....good luck with your new kitty. have fun with it

Another chance

To gush on abotu my kitten. ive had her less then a month and she is about 3 months old and cute as hell. Her name is Anxiety but she gets call ed Ani. She also doesnt respond to her name because she gets called so many things. I try to use Ani as often as possible but she gets cutie and baby girl and sweetie and baby and darling adn sugar butt and a million other names by me and grandma when I bring her to my moms place. She came from a house with 2 other cats and a puppy and it took ehr two days to get over missing them but she likes being the queen for a change. She is spoiled rotten and loves me to death. If I leave her at my moms when I go to work she cries for 5 minuts after I leave but when I bring her home and she says bye to Grandma she doesnt cry at all so I know Im her favorite lol. She sleeps with me in my bed every night unless im on midnights then she stays at grandmas. Where she sleeps on the couch. When in bed with me she sleeps under the covers beside my stomach while im reading totally covered up. And when I turn the lights out to go to sleep she crawls out and lays on the body pillow beside me on her back with all her paws spread wide out and she snores. Lol. Lol which is a bit bothersome because it has kept me up some nights when its really loud but its so cute I cant be mad. She still sleeps a ton and her play times are 6:30am for about half an hour then from 10:30 till about 12:30. It works well with my schedule and doesnt bother me. She is happy to just get scratched on her tummy at 6:30 for a bit then shell go back to sleep or go find one of her toys for awhile. She doesnt attract any bugs and Im posative your baby wont either. I mean the only way that would happen is if you didnt clean up after her. And considering she is in your room your going to clean religiously. (seeing as you dont want your room to smell like kitty im sure lol) I hope you have tons and tons of fun with her and give it time your mom may come around. If she doesnt oh well.....shes your kitty and as long as you love her thats what matters. But just because its more fun this way I hope your mom turns into a grandma like mine. Everytime my mom goes out she brings Ani home a treat. This week she bought the harness and leash I was going to get this weekend so I can take her to my moms work.(She works in a veterans home where anyone is allowed to bring their pets for an hour or a full shift to visit with the residents) So ill keep you and your kitten in my thoughts and best of luck with your mom.

hi i cant sleep again, gabe is so happy to be home i guess. I had him for almost two days and i love him to death, just makes me nervous when he jumps of the bed to the water tray. I need to get pictures up, everyone who meets him gets attached.
