I watched the Prayer Services fron National Cathedral. Was very impressed by what the humans had to say. Funny not one mentioned politics, may we all take the hint.
... that we have this President at the helm, now, at this time. As much as i do not share many of his views (choice issues, for example), i think he's the right person to lead us into the frightening maze of retaliation, retribution, and renewal that lies ahead of the entire world in the months, maybe years, to come.
And thank you for that other thread with the text of his speech. I was working at the time and didn't get a chance to hear it live.
Just reading the words has sent shivers up my spine! It's the same feeling I get when the President walks into the Capitol and is met with applause by the entire Congress. The same feeling I get when I hear the National Anthem. Or recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
It is also the same feeling I get when I am scared and look to someone for strength and reassurance. The same feeling I have when I seek and find comfort for any hurt or pain.
It is a mixture of pride, gratitude, relief and comfort. I got it by reading his speech and by so many of the words I have read on the board throughout this crisis.
As this crisis continues over the next months and years, our President will continue to need our support. His remarks today were exactly what I needed to hear. While I have nightmares about the coming months, I believe in his leadership and I know that everyone who was involved with these heinous acts will feel the full fury of the US.
I never had a doubt that he would be a good leader, in good times or in bad. I just wish he didn't have to prove his skills in bad times.
I was working also, and missed the service. MSNBC is running the whole thing again tonight though at 3 a.m. EST (midnight P.S.T.) I plan to tape it and keep it for strength in the months to come- I fear things will get much worse before they ever get better.
