many on this board, in fact...who will enjoy some sense of unholy glee when the next strike of terror befalls the USA. There'll be all sorts of "we told you so" and "you were asking for it" and "it's your own damn fault" and "the CIA did it" chortling, or maybe it'll be more along the lines of "it's about time you shared the suffering of the world", or "whitey finally got what he deserved".

Shit, I don't know, but what you all seem to forget is that the people who'll die won't be those you seem to hate so rabidly. GWB and the "oil barons" (whoever they may be), won't fall. The victims will be people like my mom, or my son, or my family and friends who live in cities all around this country. It might even be that after the next strike that some of us here will simply never post again, and those who remain will always have to wonder if just maybe....

Folks, we're talking about a very tense and frightening time. We're talking about instinctively pushing our children behind us in a futile attempt to protect them. We're talking about simple, good people standing in harm's way and all I see and read from some of you is finger-pointing, America-bashing, redneck stereotyping, we're-all-so-superior-to-you bullshit.

I'm just a young mom with a son who relies upon me utterly, who truly fears her own death more for his being left behind than for the fear of her own demise. I'm a patriot with a heart, a woman who knows she has it good and has the decency to feel bad about those who don't. I know my country isn't perfect and I know we've made mistakes, many of which have led us to sad ends, but I also know that we're the inheritors of the greatest social experiment ever to succeed. We're the ones the whole free world copied because we made the impossible work.

There's so much to all of us that you who hate us don't know or understand, but the one thing that rises above it all is that we're just people. Good and bad, we're just people.

What's so bad about that? Why do you think I'm so evil?

sigh, I don't know what to say here. I doubt anyone can say much in the way of support when its so much more that is needed, I'm just letting you know that one person that read this was very moved.

I KNOW I am going to regret this.........
But to try and give an "outsiders view, I will have a go.....

to give a point of view that is not American, but from someone who's sympathies are with "truth and justice".

I broke the question? up to make it easier to repsond to as there are so many differnet questions within it.

1. Only from racial/religous bigots and those who have their own axe to grind, another person suffering should never be the source of glee.

2. But they are the ones pulling the strings for the government (as a nation) you elected, democracy isn't all peaches and cream.

3. Regardless of whether they live in Baghdad or Boston, this is true, and humanity should weep, not just the families of those directly affected.

4. True, the same applies to every aspect of human interaction, your milkman might be on holidays, your baker a tourist, your solicitors parents may well be arabian, or American, does their nationality make a difference? Were all Germans under Hitler evil?

5. Let us hope that as a human race we never lose that protective instinct, the desire to keep those we love and care about safe.

6. This is a hard one to be honest, a country that literally sets itself up as the worlds police is going to occasionally cop it, sad, probably even unfair, but almost inevitable. It could also be said that the holier than thou arguement originated in the US, cetainly as far as the current climate goes, however that position totally ignores the justifiable outrage and need for justice created by 9/11, an event that shocked me to the core and changed my whole outlook on life.

7. None of these sentiments deserve derision or putdown.

8. Not quite true, most of the democratic world is based on two models, the US style, which actually originated in the period BC with the ancient Romans, and the English model, both work well, as do the systems of justice. I think it is a big call to say the world copied.......commercialism definately, so if thats the take you were going for I can only agree, but apart from that I struggle a bit with that one.

9. Very true, of all of us, black, white or brindle, Christian, Muslim, or Calithumpian.

10. And wouldn't it be great if we could be just one people........

11. Not at all, a patriot, which is a good thing, obviously a caring person too, if there were a lot more the same I doubt we would be reading this topic, and the world we be a much safer and SANER place...... :)

I appologise if I have offended anyone here, it is not my intention at all, "sigh's" post seemed to be looking for someone to actually respond to her query/plea....... not just applaud and salute the/any flag?

The victims will also be mothers and fathers, sons and daughters of Iraqi civlians. An estimated 30,000 to 40,000 will die if the American military invades. Not to mention the estimated 1 million who will flee their homes and become refugees.

I'm just a father with a son and I am thankful he wasn't borne into a society of hatred where citizens, by and large, let their government parade around the world with little regard for the value of human life.

Has the great social experiment succeeded? 16 million poor, 40% without medical insurance, etc. Average voter turnout of 40-45%.

There's work to be done.

Or you can just sit and mumble about why the civilised world shakes its head sadly at the state of your nation and it's people.

Oh, and patriotism is hardly a virtue.
Humanitarianism, regardless of borders or race... a far more noble cause.

Eloquently stated, I hope that nothing like this happens.

LOL!
You really are a little bumblefuck if you actually believe that.
Toto, there is a civilised world out there. Hard for you to believe, I know.

Higher standards of living, all of life's opportunities available to all, respect for your common man. and nothing to do with communism.

Actually, there is nothing you can do that citizens of any other country in the western world cannot do. The fact is, with all of your censorship and restricted media, we can do so much more.

Only 6% of Americans have passports. Shame really. You could get out and educate yourselves.

How did you come to this figure? Funny I don't remember this many Afgans killed. Do you think the Afgans hate us for a maybe 100 people dying for the freedom of their country?

You're not from coolville, you're from headinthegroundville. I'm guessing you're from Europe so I don't suppose you remember a little man named Hitler? Except Hitler didnt have nuclear weapons.

Oh, Iraq took over Kuwait. Good thing thing those stupid americans didn't do anything about it. Hell, Kuwait isnt even on the risk board. Hey Iraq took over Afganastan. They're all muslims anyways so whats the diff. Wow Iraq took over Saudi Arabia. I guess that means gas prices will go up. Hmm, ther're renaming Africa as Iraq. As long as we don't bother them we'll be fine...

America is made from people of 100 different countries. We believe in freedom and freedom of the people of our original countries. Sure things could be better here if we didnt worry about the rest of the world.

Hmm....i suppose we could be nazi's right now....Well, maybe not us, but you certainly would mr stoolville.

It's a shame that people think we are power hungry world dominating people. It's a shame that some of the world turns a blind eye to the reincarnates of Adolph Hitler.

Go ahead and do nothing....except reply with some socialist garbage

We know now that fucking with the world will bring consequences and thats because its become a dangerous world....perhaps you havent noticed

I find it desperately sad that intelligent (?) people just throw insults at each other.

I wasn't just picking at your comment.

As far as the original post of Sigh's, I agree with it.

I know where our friends are.

i've got to go do my taxes and help pay for that one bomb that will land in Saddams outhouse while he's taking a shit

100 Afghans? Sad, sad, sad.
Estimates range from 3,500 and up.
one of many sites
The civilian death estimates from Iraq are from Medecins sans Frontieres and other aid agencies. The 1 million refugees who will seek to leave the country is considered to be a low estimate.

so I don't suppose you remember a little man named Hitler? Except Hitler didnt have nuclear weapons.
Neither does Saddam. He is an overrated bad guy who has been exaggerated because of the failed attempts to find the real threat to world security, Osama bin Laden.

I choose not to respond to this drivel. Formulate coherent sentence and then... perhaps.

Believing in freedom is fine. Most of the Western World does so. It's just that we choose to live the credo and not just spout rhetoric.

We know now that fucking with the world will bring consequences and thats because its become a dangerous world....perhaps you havent noticed
Defend yourselves. Every nation has a right to do that. But don't go tramping around the planet and planning "pre-emptive strikes" against nations that pose little or no threat to yourselves apart from raising the price of oil and petrol for your car.

Saddam is a motherfucker but he isn't Hitler. Bush has made him Hitler. But hell, the White House Propaganda Machine could make the King of Tonga look evil if they were given the opportunity.

Find Osama and bring him to justice. Leave the Iraqi civilians alone.

Clean up in your own backyard before shitting in everyone else's.

Quite simple, really.

Class dismissed.

as i walk out the door (and i will try to be coherent):

so tell me...what did you think of the Kuwait takeover? Was that fine with you? They stole everything from the Kuwait people. Do you think Kuwait was going to be the end? Should we have done nothing becuase they didnt attack us? Do you really, really think it was just about the oil?

Somehow you avoided this part of the arguement

Why do you think I'm so evil?

I have no particular problem with you...well, okay, you sound like a whiner of subnormal intelligence...but that makes you too dim to be evil.

But there are a few hundred million people in the world who hate you just on principle.

They're called Muslims and they think you are a lowlife dirtbag deserving to die because you drink alcohol, worship material goods, eat pigs...and for a thousand other reasons.

Some Muslims have figured out how to blow up Americans into tiny bits, so your leader, El Presidente GW Arbusto II, has declared war on those Muslims that call themselves Al Qaeda.

This means that the AQ Muslims are now Extra Interested in blowing You into little bits like on the Columbia, or watching you dive 110 stories to a splattering death live on CNN like at the WTC.

Because, after all...You've already been responsible for the death of 500,000 Muslim Children since 1991 according to UNESCO.

So, you see, the AQ feels You owe them one or two of Your Kids.

Hope this helps you understand. Have a nice day! Oh yeah one more thing: Buy duct tape!

why and how? With our version of Hitler, Ashcroft, coming up withe new initiatives to track our every move. Our government ratcheting up the rhetoric and potentially hoping for a terror attack so they can say "na na na na boo boo, I told you soooooo. Lets blow the fuck outta sumpin". Combine that with the general disdain Europe has for Americans (come on admit it, ya'll are a fairly snooty bunch) and I think I'll sit here in my pasely crib watching the propaganda..errrrrr I mean world through my big screen TV.

Why is that sattellite taking pics of my computer activities????
