...in the House and Senate this morning.

Intelligent, sober discourse, and lots of invoking of Jefferson. Turn off Howard Stern, and find NPR.

Your children will stuff you in a rest home and forget you.

I turned on C-SPAN but they're taking PHONECALLS

The first one "Anybody who opposes the war against Iraq deserves another Spet. 11".

It's like Bush himself called up

Oh, forgot to say...Byrd, the Great West Virginia Pork King is very good in these things. Probably since he knew some of the younger founding fathers himself.

My fave quote from him so far this morning:

(referring to the President)

"Who is he? He puts his britches on just the same as me!"

I think Bush's insistence on a blank check from Congress was a stupid miscalculation, and makes me more greatly fear the quality of advice he's getting.

If this gets passed wouldn't the Supreme Court be obligated to take a look at it? I mean many argue that it's unconstitutional to give him that power.

(STILL not order "Please get out of the aisles? Hello?")

What were the limitations on Bush 41 in 1991? Didn't he basically get a blank check to do whatever he wanted within the U.N. resolutions?

NPR, man. No callers. No talking heads. No snappy graphics. No cheesehead reporters weighing in "Live from a shrubbery near the White House".

I think the key phrase ther is "U.N. resolutions", which, by definition, implies multi-lateral action, as opposed to the current request, which, again by implication, does an end run around the U.N. and advocates, in spirit, unilateral action.

Yeah.. I gotta go eat Breakfast soon anyways

Man.. That NY guy is quite the speaker.

Yeah, but you can't see Hillary Clinton's $500 "do" like I can on C-SPAN 2.

Bitch!

Fuck the red carpet, the senate chambers are where I get my fashion tips.

Yeah...I just think if you're gonna go to war their shouldn't be any limitations on the military. Let them do their job.

If you don't like what they're doing cut their money off later. That's what it all depends on.

I think Bush's argument is that the President is permitted to wage war in the case of, say, a surprise attack, and that that power should be extended to cover "imminent" attack, as it applies to Hussein's intentions. I think it's a poor argument.

I think yelling 9/11 at the top of your lungs every time a question is asked (even Enron and what do you want for lunch) is a poor leadership tactic, but it seems to work for him.

I agree, Dix!

As much as the Unilateralists in the Exec. Cabal lobby for "action" at any cost, it is good to see that the "Checks" are able to Balance that "blank cheque".... Whew! ;)

The US Admin. right now reminds me of Ronnie Ray-Gun's bunch - without any of the subtlety practiced by that Executive... and the Brezhnyev Brinksmanship was a wee bit nerve-wracking here in the "fall-short zone". :D

Isn't that how Germany lost the Battle of the Bulge...the tanks ran out of gas?

U.S. House of Representatives = Minor league Baseball.

Come on over to the Senate on C-SPAN 2 and listen to MCCain. He's on right now.

That was part of it. U.S. engineer battalions also also paralleled Sepp Deitrich's tanks trying to cross the Meuse river and blew up every bridge literally minutes before the Germans got there. This happened seven or eight times, and really pissed the Germans off.

And Gawd Help you folks (& us too!) if he moves too soon... i.e. without a larger than Anglo-American Military force.

No one, I hope disputes that SaddAss HAS to go - but the Fallout without Jordanians, Saudis and even Iranians ? onside will just exacerbate the instability. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
