Period pain!

God DAMN it who's stupid idea *was* this?

Anyone know a good cure/remedy short of a shotgun to the head? I'm pain-killered out...

Long hot shower

Heating pad

Hell, just laying in bed with the laptop in the right spot helps in a pinch. :D

I've heard that, too, but it just makes me cramp worse. Just my luck.

That helps later on, two or three days from now and I'll be gagging for one, right now I'm sore, I feel like someone hit me repeatedly around the midsection with a baseball bat.

Min - Heating pad. Must get some. Scratch that, must send sibling out for some, I aint moving.

I knew I lived with her for a reason...

Take some steroids. Your period will stop after a while. Yeah, your clit will start to resemble a dick, which is a bummer. But, hey, whatever it takes to get rid of those damn cramps.

Combine it with the hot shower, and that's what works for me. The only thing in fact.

Hugs, J-L. I agree; it sucks. If it's really bad, pacing in circles helps me. If I'm moving I think about it less. If I'm just lying there, I'm miserable. Like the others have said heating pad helps, too. More hugs to you. :rose:

Luck,

Yui

JL... reading always helps me....anything in fact to distract my brain from the pain. My sympathies go out to you *hugs* keepingyourtum warmis a good idea :)

I have sent the sibling out to steal a hot water bottle from my mother as she only lives up the road.

May go have a bath...

Thanks guys, keep em coming.

Having a baby helps, but that's only a temporary measure, unless you keep churning them out until you hit the menopause. It worked for my mother but she's an ass.

3 kids apparently. (old wives tale)

Menopause?

Whisky?

Dry socket infection? (Second worst pain available to women apparently [blokes would obviously die from it]) takes your mind off the period pain anyway.

Therea care. they are chemical heating pads and work for 8 hours with no cords or anything, just stick em inside you rpanties. Also have a wrap around kind if your pain is higher up on your body.

Midol. It works.

Get a computer game. I reccomend something like Myst, where you have to think a bit. it always seems to help when my head is occupied with stuff.

If all else fails, a shot of WTK 101 in a brandy glass.

*HUGS*

Love those therma care wraps. They're great if you have to go out on a day when you just want to curl up and die.

They are life savers for those times you can't afford to spend the day in bed.

Can you get those in the UK?

Or am I just gonna have to bring them back by the boxload from the US when I come over? LOL

Pamprin- My mom says they kill migrains . . .can't see why they wouldn't work for what they were made for. *shrug*

I second the childbirth thing. also dry sockets. They make having a baby feel like a ride at the circus.

Just to distract you a bit, I had to have my wisdom tooth cut from the bone. they had to dig through my gums and cut out an inch and a half inch long sliver of bone, drill and saw my tooth out then poke around to make sure none of it was left. Then they stitched me up and sent me home with two days worth of pain killers. NEedless to say, the dentist failed to mention that when a woman is near her menses she is thirteen times more likely to get a dry socket even when she's followed the post op s to the letter. so I ended up in pain so bad I wished I was dead for two weeks. Literally crying in bed screaming for someone to kill me.

I don't get menstral pain, so I can only offer distraction.

Okay I have to ask, what in hell is a dry socket infection?

(I should know this, I'm surrounded by medicos)

News Updates

A dry socket is:
Any socket in which a patient is having pain due to the loss of the blood clot thus exposing the bone to air, food, and fluids along with an offensive odor. This often occurs two or more days after an extraction and can last about 5-6 days. It is normal to have soreness and discomfort following an extraction.

However, pain should be lessening by the second day.
This condition exist when a blood clot is dislodged from the surgery site thus exposing the bone and fine nerve endings. The blood clot helps in the stopping of bleeding and lays the foundation or framework for new tissue and bone to develop over a two-month healing process. This condition is more common in the mandibular area and in back teeth due to poorer circulation in this area, with wisdom teeth being the most common site. Dry socket delays the healing process.

It usually takes gum tissue about 3-4 weeks to heal where as the bone can take up to six months to heal.
