I have a friend who makes corsets to order out of leather and fabric. She's been doing that for over 10 years. Recently, she's been learning how to make clothing from latex and is now offering such things in her business.

I don't know when the craze really started, but there are quite a few groups created on Fetlife that revolve around latex and it's properties of bondage, its restricted feeling when being worn, etc, but also as fashion.

There are corsets, boots, gloves, vests, dresses, etc as well as the hoods and body bondage stuff. One guy made himself a shirt out of magenta colored latex that is cut just like any other shirt would be...just that it's made of latex.

Personally, I think the glossy appearance is interesting, and the form fitting items on women are sexy. The interest is out there for sure. And as that link you provided showed, you are only limited to your imagination.

Some of the items are made air tight so a pump can be used to pump air in so to restrict movement that much more. Many hoods are done that way, and there are also gags that have a pump in them to pump the ball up, once inside the mouth. Those items would be very expensive, I'm sure.

My friend is really into the feeling of being confined or restricted. She's been a tightlacer for many years. She made a catsuit out of latex and slept in it one night. She loved it.

Latex/pvc/rubber doesn't do anything for me as a fetish or as a fashion, but I do have a friend who is starting her own latex clothing line, and she puts out some pretty amazing stuff. If latex clothing is anything, its intense. It can look amazing, or it can look awful, without much room in between.
