OK, here goes, I would appreciate some feedback please. Thanx in advance.

I am 46, am essentially retired. Have a great deal of stress right now with some legal problems. I am taking Prozac. have a great GF who loves me and does everything I want.

My problem?

My sex drive is next to zero!

I have taken hormone tests and its OK. I am in good health. I have gone to a urologist.

Any of you guys my age notice a diminuation in sex drive? Any ideas?

Appreciate comments.

Hanny, Darling

Somehow I KNEW you would be the first to respond. Yes, killing em is a rush, but Im a CHICKEN HAWK.

it's the prozac first and foremost.

Get thee to a Dr. he/she can work with you to find something else that might work better.

If it isn't the prozac, it might be your testosterone levels.

Stress, anti depressents and testosterone levels are all key factors in your libido.

If it is general lack of interest, it's the Prozac. If it's the want and the lack of the car, it's stress. If' it's the interest the car and no drive, I'm guessing it is the testosterone level.

Go to your Dr. or call even. Sometimes they have people on call, but they'll recommend you go in to see them anyway.

I'm sure it all plays in, stress kills my sex drive, and antidepressants all have that warning... good luck babe. Ask your doc if there's anything you can take with less of these types of side effects... maybe start to meditate, sounds silly but it works for calming the nerves. Prayer is another thing that keeps my stress levels down.

Last year, Dr. Steven M. Paul, group vice president of Lilly Research Laboratories, said Prozac causes mild to moderate sexual dysfunction in "20 to 30 percent max" of its users.

Vernalis cited studies that indicate 30 percent to 40 percent of patients on SSRI medication suffer from sexual problems linked to taking the antidepressants.

Thanx for the responses

It is not the testosterone level, I had it checked, it was OK.

It may very well be the stress.

i will consult the Doc regarding the Prozac.

A saw an article in City Pages a couple of weeks ago(http://www.citypages.com) about Prozac. It's apparently quite addictive as well as having a number of unpleasant side-effects. OTOH, City Pages is a bit of a tabloid sometimes with their sensationalistic articles--so I'm not sure I can trust their articles.

Thx.....

I do about 2 hours of excersise 5 days a week.

I liked this line out of the endorphin site the best:

Q: If all of these things are true, how should we live our lives?

A: Recent studies have shown that chronic stress, anger and depression cause the body to manufacture chemicals that can inhibit the healing process and shorten life expectancy, while euphoria protects us from stress, illness and premature death. While apparently unscientific, these findings are promoted by Candace Pert and other neuroscientists. Some of the major ways that we can experience a greater sense of joy and well-being in our lives: becoming conscious, daily relaxation, enjoyable exercise, "pointless" recreational activities, tapping into our dreams, guiltless goofing off, experiencing pleasure in little things, public and private displays of affection, sex without guilt, greater laughter and additional sources of merriment.
