I can't speak!!

Don't stress your vocal chords further, by 'testing them out' all day. Drink warm liquids and carry a pen and paper! ;)

Nice to see you back lately.

Wow, a man's dream girl. Beautiful, but can't talk to nag ya.........."running from the thread!"
 :p :D

Acupuncture and Chinese herbs work amazingly well. (Got me a mention of thanks on a CD cover) You might also try baked pears with honey to nourish the lungs.

The aforementioned "pal" also recommended gargling man juice as a cure. Silly fellow.

Who knows if it would work, but it'd sure be fun trying.

herbal tea with honey, warm but not hot! It may not hasten your recovery but it feels good!

This is from experience

First keep your throat warm - wear a turtle neck or scarf. Even wear it to bed.

secondly Don't talk at all. nothing nada zip!

Thirdly drink plenty of warm liquids - what ever you chose just try to avoid cafine.

And lastly get plenty of rest.

You want to rest and relax you vocal chords.

Good luck

human protein shakes tend to give me a hoarse feeling, not cure it... But if you must speak, don't whisper, it'll strain your vocal cords more. If you can't actually visit an acupuncturist, massage for 15-30 seconds one inch on either side of your seventh cervical vertebrae (that's counting down from the top, should be a little bit past the start of your shoulder blades).

I taught once when I had exactly the same problem you do and just couldn't make a comprehensibe sound. I plotted out the lesson and walked in, made one horribly painful squeaking sound, and the students realized what the problem was. I used transparencies, the chalk board, and gave students index cards so they could sort of direct certain portions of the class for me. Gave them lots of group work activities. It actually turned out to be a lot of fun. Give them a few directions and on the college level, they can manage without you for a day or so until the voice comes back (and it will, you just have to avoid straining it and drink liquids until you're sick to death of them).

... because I'm shameless when trying to wring sympathy.
How does a person who has lost their voice call in sick?

I hope you feel better soon, Honey.
