and now I have a sore on the inside that for the life of me will not heal. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks
Holden

That happened to me once and the only thing you can do is let it heal on its own. Try to swish with warm salt water to dry it out. It wont heal as quickly b/c it is wet all the time. I don't know of any products that could help sorry b/c most of them are for topical use only.

You could pick up a bottle of hydrogen peroxide at the drugstore. It's usually with the rubbing alcohol and I've used it for the occasional gum or throat infection. You can dilute it slightly or use it straight, and recently a doctor told me you could mix it half and half with listerine too. It doesn't taste too great, but it's safe for gargling and use in the mouth.

In the oral section of a large drugstore (next to all the toothpastes) you should find a few products which are meant for use in your mouth and will fight off infection while it heals.

Sorry about your ouchy!

salt water = yes
hydrogen peroxide & listerine = NO!

those last 2 actually help degrade newly forming cells and what little heals... will be rinsed off in your cleaning quest...

as for the moisture...the mouth, as well as all other mucous membranes actually heal faster due to the moisture and an abundant blood supply...

you may want to consult a doctor if you cant get it to heal, you might have some other underlying problem that is impacting your body's ability to repair itself.

Any trauma to the mouth - biting your lip or your tongue - can cause mouth ulcers (canker sores). If this is what you have (as opposed to, say, a boo-boo where the teeth broke the skin) you should switch at least temporarily until it is healed to a a toothpaste that DOES NOT CONTAIN SLS, or sodium lauryl sulfate. Unfortunately it can be hard to find one, you will probably have to go to a natural foods store. SLS is a foaming agent - you will notice it is an ingredient in all kinds of shampoos, soaps, etc. It does nothing to make the products it is in more effective, it just makes them sudsy (because we asssociate sudsiness with cleaning, but the suds are not actually neccessary). SLS can majorly irritate your mouth though if you have a mouth ulcer, and if you are prone to getting them in general, switch to an SLS-free toothpaste permanently.

Advice?

Yeah, how about biting your food instead of your lip? :D

Sorry, couldn't resist. Hope it's getting better...
