As I've said, before I believe two things.

First, that there is enough pain in the universe without me adding to it.

And, that the three prime virtues a human being should possess are empathy, wisdom and courage.

I'm afraid that despite my best efforts to believe otherwise and some happy experiences recently that love, for me at least, is in the same category as winning the lottery. A pleasant fantasy, but not something to build my life around.

I believe that life is essentially random, elegant, and beautiful--full of patterns, but ultimately a perfect and indecipherable chaos. I also know I will never stop trying to arrange that chaos and force some sort of logic upon it. And that's an inevitably futile struggle, ordering the chaos, but the stuggle to do so is one of the things that makes us human.
