I've been in a financial pinch lately. This is the background:

I study at the university. I started in the middle of August, and read introductory mathematics for 2 weeks. That gave me 2 points. I then started a 3-year-long program in the beginning of September. I studied 4 subjects in the autumn semester, and another 4 in the spring. Now, I should have gotten 5 points for each course, which equals 2+20+20=42 points.

Now, in order to get financial support from the government for next year's studies, I need to pass atleast 75% of my courses. This means I need atleast 31 points. The problem was that I failed two exams, and my idiot of a Java-programming teacher has been on vacation since the beginning of June and hasn't given a shit about correcting the lab raports I turned in 18th of May. Thus, I was lacking 15 points from the 42 = 27 points in total.

Yesterday, I got a letter from the branch that handles the student financing - CSN. They wanted me to start paying back the money they had lend me last year. I called them and askes politely what the eff they were doing asking a studet to pay? You're not supposed to have to pay back the money until after you've finished school!

They asked me if I had stopped my studies, and I explained that no, I had not, I was merely on what we call "summer holiday". They told me not to worry, I wouldn't have to pay - they had just sent me that letter hoping to squeeze some moeny out of me. Weird, how quick they send out letters requesting your money, but they're so slow when it come sto paying you themselves!

I then talked to another egghead, because I wanted to ask if the missing 5 points had to come from one completed course, or if I could count the 2 points I got from the lab raports in Operative Systems class and the 3 points I got from the exam in Java. It turned out that I could. OK, that made it 32 points, didn't it? No, only 30, said the egghead.

How can 27 + 5 be 30? I asked. Well, he explained, I only had 25 before the last 2+3 points, thus only 30 points.
What about the 2 points I got from the math course in the summer?
No, those points had already been counted, I couldn't count them TWICE!
WHEN had these points been counted? I asked. He hadn't mentioned them in the list of courses I had passed!

CSN, clever as they are, insisted on counting with the 2 points in the total 42, thus making it necessary for me to get atleast 31 points. BUT, they didn't want to count the same 2 points in the total of 32 that I had actually gained!

Finally, my friend egghead realized that I HADN'T studied in the spring earlier that year, and so the 2 points DID count - if they hadn't, I would SO have raised a hell about the CSN logic mentioned above.

Long story short - CSN recognizes that I've made 32 points in one year, and thus they have approved my application for fundings for next school year. I'll get the money in the middle of September. AND a fat pay check two weeks after that.

I'm thinking of writing this little story into my resume so I can show it to future employers.

Especially when she is obviously learning from her mathematics course...
