I am so fucking annoyed. Well slightly, at least.

I flipped through the January and February 2003 issues of Hustler this evening, and I was disappointed to notice that the women are looking much more polished and mainstream than they used to. The layouts and the girls they are using are starting to lean toward the Penthouse and Playboy aesthetic. I used to enjoy Hustler for the (comparative) gritty rawness of their models, but homogeneity seems to be taking over.

Has anyone else noticed this shift?

No.

But I did notice that Soldier of Fortune is starting to get more glossy with their pics. It's like they're getting all NRA on me.

:D

Haven't noticed that, but I have a 16 page paper due tomorrow that I'm on page 2 of...plus 3 more summaries that I haven't started.

So, count me in on being annoyed.

Exactly! I don't know why they're doing that...I love Hustler when I was younger for that reason alone...the women were always covered in dirt or something and there was a lot of pink, more than Penthouse. Don't they publish Cheri and those also? Those are still pretty gritty... LOL

Simple economics. The Internet has shit raunchier than anything Hustler could even hope to have, and for anyone who knows how to get it, it's free.

So Hustler either has to throw its lot in with Playboy and Penthouse and compete for the primo, or get left behind by silicon and silicone.

Is this anything like the annoyance I felt when The Sporting News went from paper to glossy paper?

As long as they don't shrink Rolling Stone..
