I have been in a somewhat BDSM relationship, but we were both new. He broke skin, but I kept asking for more. It that unsual? I am not a masochist, but the feel of him dominating me was most wonderful. I just don't know what to think of it. I was in the hospital due to what he did. How far do people take it? I can't be submissive in everyday life, but in the bed I want to. Does that make sense? Thanks in advance.

You were in the hospital due to what he did? That goes a bit farther than most people I know. We generally use a safeword or stop before going there. I don't have a problem with broken skin or bruises, but at some point, you have to stop or risk damaging your body. Once you are injured, you can't play anymore until you heal. Therefore, it makes sense to me to stop before you get injured. That's the safe and sane part of it all. Does that make sense to you?

Well, im not exactly an expert on the subject, but i would say anything that requires a hospital is a bit overboard. Exactly what happened that required you to be hospitalised?

and yes, i'd say wanting to be submissive in bed only is perfectly normal as a 24/7 role isn't for everyone

The reason for the hospital was it started getting infected. The really funny thing is it did not hurt when it was happening. My skin is just more tender than I thought. Thank you Ottawaman.

How did he break the skin? Was he just using a knife or was it from a whip or something?

"too far" is when one of you stops liking it.

I might make a possible exception for partners who are both insane, and acting irrationally.

then you both need to slow down and plan for before and after. nothing wrong with marks like that (to me at least) but to allow them to get infected is pure neglect on both your part and your dominants.

I have to agree with Kajira, also if the doctor who saw you had gotten it in his mind that the infection was bdsm related he could have called the police, and this gets the lifestyle a bad rap.
The usual advice has to be given, become educated on what you are doing, take the time to learn, it will give you a lifetime of pleasure.

It wouldn't hurt to also take a first aide and CPR class. I and my partner both are trained in first aide and Cpr and although we have never needed it, its been worth doing.

I'd suggest you and he visit some BDSM workshops in your area, and learn proper techniques, so you don't have to keep going to the ER, and have them file a report on you.

preventing infection

If it makes you feel any better, rubber alcohol stings :)
