...to find a used piano for hub for his 50th birthday in July. Only problem is I have no idea where or how to start my search.

So... I was hoping that some of you fine people might have some ideas. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Not about sex, you say? Okay how's this: How do I find a used piano so I can do a private strip tease while hub cranks out some hot jazz? Oh my God...the mental picture of that is way to funny for me to even contemplate:D ...

Thanks!:rose:

P.S. this is my first thread and I am pretty excited about that.

Check with the music department of your nearby college. Many of them have arrangements with music stores to buy pianos at a significant discount, and will sell the older ones to turn over their inventory so that the students will have new instruments to play.

no piano but...

i can't help you with a piano, but i have an ORGAN you could use. ;)

j/k... i couldn't resist. :)

in all seriousness, the college music departments and instrument stores mentioned above are the best places to look. in rare instances you might luck out with your local paper if someone's moving and can't take it with them (but i'm sure you thought of that).

good luck. and just for the record, i do have an actual organ... you people have such dirty dirty minds. ;)

Thanks guys! I hadn't thought of the college music department.

I have absolutely no idea where we are even going to put a piano in our house, but he seems set on it.

And I just have to say, EJFan, you are a very naughty boy!;)

Your location says you are in Ohio...the Steinway dealership in Cincinnati is absolutely AMAZING. The owner is an especially dedicated piano lover and he will take care of you, find anything you need in your price range, and even deliver it (with the intial tuning included) for a very reasonable charge.

One thing, though...I'm not sure what your budget is, but keep in mind we are talking about baby grands/grands here, of the quite expensive variety; however, if you are looking for longetivity in the instrument and one hell of a sound, that's the way to go. It is an investment that even your great-grandkids will cherish.

I'll send you a PM with direct numbers, if you're interested. :)

Good luck!

I wouldn't rule out used ones - see if you have any buy and sell papers in your area and then see how much it would cost you to get one tuned up == it might be in your benifit - depending on your budget.

Good luck!

Well, unfortunately, a grand or even a baby grand would take up about two thirds of my living room. I was thinking more along the lines of a console--I think that's what they're called. Even then, I'm going to have to do some serious rearranging. Maybe this is getting to be way more than I bargained for :( , but I thank all of you for your replies.

Obviously I have some more research to do. *sigh*

Hmmmm..... maybe what you're looking or is called an upright.

Aside from scouring the local classifieds, try the yellow pages for music lesson givers. They might know someone who will be upgrading to a better piano and wants to get rid of their old one. Or maybe a 7 year old kid decided he wants to play drums instead of piano, much to his mother's disappointment. So they might have one to get rid of, too.

Good luck!

Another place to look is "thrift stores" or "second hand stores." Some of the larger "chains," like St Vincent's or Deseret Industries, will be able to locate a piano if any of the stores in your area have one.

Antique stores are another possible source, although you'll pay more for an "antique" than you will for "second hand." It might still be worth it to look in antique stores because youmight luck out on a good deal for an upright "Player Piano" tht cnplay itself when hubby gets tired.:p
