The plot of this story is familiar, and I know I've read it, but can't find it on any of my lists. I believe that it is "A Certain Tension" by FemmyFemmeFemme. Unfortunately she has removed all but 1 of her stories from the site due to someone stealing one of her series and putting it up on Amazon for sale.
