The disabled man could work as a coat-rack in the restaurant where the waitress works.

im writing a short romance story featuring a disabled man and a beautiful waitress. but i have a problem i am not sure what sort of job the disabled man should have i have a small list but i still can't still decide and all help with this would be greatly appreciated. p.s. here is the list
1.police detective
2.private detective
3.walmart employee

I think the best is the private detective...he/ she is mystery;)

What is the disability? I don't want to sound prejudiced but accepting a disabled person as a police detective or private detective seems like stretching reality too much for me, not that it's not impossible.

I like the private detective, too. Much of their work consists of surveillance and most of that could be done by someone in a wheelchair. He could have a partner for more physical aspects of the job. Also, lots of private investigation involves document searches or, these days, internet searches. A guy in a wheelchair could be just as top rate at that as any other PI.

Just a few thoughts.

Any kind of desk job could be done by someone who's wheelchair bound. Especially one where they might have some kind of assistant who can handle any tasks that being in a chair would be difficult. He could also be an artist of some sort, maybe a musician, or a consultant for a business. Lawyer is also a possibility.

Don't you remember Ironsides? Or Longstreet?

How about a hot shot computer consultant. His apartment is just a couple of blocks away from the very nice restaurant where the waitress works.

You scoundrel!
I was going to suggest that as well. Maybe a web designer that works from home. He lives close to the restaurant and frequents it. It's easier to just go out and eat rather than use the stove.

Never saw ironside but heard of it, the thought of being a cop in a wheelchair in san fransico made me laugh just thinking about how the town is basically one giant hill.

No, it's not one giant hill. There are lots of hills!

I like the computer consultant angle. You could still go with a mystery/surveillance type story and have the computer guy be an employee of the police department. He's a tech guy, analyzes video/photo evidence. Something along those lines, maybe?

You gotta love watching him chase a perp down Lombard Street!

Down the hill is a piece of cake. Up the hill is going to be the bitch!

Mike

Sorry Great Brit. You got there before I did and I didn't see your post..

Jenny. as a self described, computer geek, you should have been on it like a duck on a June bug.

I must admit I have a couple of ideas about an computer security expert who works from his home/apt. He has several young hackers working for him whom he pays well to try to break into the systems of those companies who hire him to test their system security.

He check on these youngsters to make sure they are honest. The last guy who tried to screwed with him had their computer hacked and everything, including the router and smart modem was encrypted with a 128 bit password. No one has heard from him since. <G>

Should any of this strike a cord with you feel free to use it any way you wish.

Have a great weekend Jenny.
