YouTube.

After posting the song lyrics for my favourite Christmas song, I checked to see if they had the video.

Sure enough, they did. :D

You had me worried for a second. :D

I have never heard this song. I like it.

Fairytale of New York

It was christmas eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, wont see another one
And then he sang a song
The rare old mountain dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
Ive got a feeling
This years for me and you
So happy christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true

Theyve got cars big as bars
Theyve got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
Its no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold christmas eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of new york city
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the nypd choir
Were singing galway bay
And the bells were ringing out
For christmas day

Youre a bum
Youre a punk
Youre an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy christmas your arse
I pray God its our last

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Cant make it all alone
Ive built my dreams around you

It's such a bittersweet song, elizabeth. I love bittersweet.

Good thing too as it's the story of my life.

I'm Canadian, Jenny. I can like any goddamn thing I please. Like most North Americans I'm a real mongrel. ;)

Well. after I posted the lyrics to one of my favourite Cohen pieces, I had to check YouTube for videos.

They had this one.

:)

Excellent, Rob!

You know, I thought this thread was going to be about how you were enjoying the accolades you're receiving for selling yet another work.

Because that would be good, too.

It would. And I'm working on it.

Lovely rendition (though I really was hoping
it was the sexy ol' bard himself) ;)

Think I prefer it sung by jeff Buckley, tbh... More haunting

Ask and ye shall receive.

Or perhaps this one.

And for Vermilion.

God I love that song. Brings tears to my eyes every time.

Me too. Makes me very emotional. Mind you, unlike things like Street Spirit by Radiohead, it does have an uplifting element that means it doesn't leave you hopeless at the end of it.

Just so.

Listening to Cohen's stuff is the closest I get to believing in God.

When I clicked, YouTube said the video had been removed. Found the Pogues video here though.

Leonard Cohen? Gotta be Suzanne.

:)

Was talking about Edith Piaf elsewhere in cyberspace. So I went to YouTube and punched her name into the search engine.

I found this.

Listening to Edith sing La Vie En Rose is almost as good as sex.

Schmooze? I didn't have you pegged as a schmoozer.

I can be ready anytime. :)

Schmoozing is what other people call promoting. I have a chat to attend at a review site. Must push my work.

I'll call you when I'm done. The night will still be young.
