We have "the" phone box in Westminster where tourists firm a line and take a pic of themselves and the houses or parliament. The queue is 40, 50 long.

I fucking hated that 5 mile walk to school...through knee high drifts of snow...had to wear bread wrappers over my socks cause we couldn't afford boots. At least it was only up hill going...not coming back

Many many years ago, I was helping at the local community centre. There was a woman who couldn’t read so I started to teach her. I suggested that she practiced by reading some of her children’s books. She told me the only book that her children had was the Argos catalogue. It broke my heart.

Now with the closure of many local libraries, I think the phone box libraries are one way of making sure that some people do get access to books

You were lucky. My dad always told me that when he trudged through snow to school it was uphill in both directions.

Although my spare time is diverted to music these days, my pocket money as a kid, was set at the price of a paperback book. I just couldn’t get enough of them
