Can anybody please help me with a little computer hitch which is threatening to drive me insane?

I don't know if it has anything to with the problem but for the sake of getting a diagnosis...the power went off here last week and I think that's when the "trouble started"...

The problem is this, when I put the cursor on a hyperlink it highlights/changes colour, flashes up the pointer, then the eggtimer very briefly, the address appears in the bottom toolbar and then it does precisely nothing.

I use Explorer, have never had this problem before, it only happens on some kind of links and not just on this site. For instance I can click someones Profile link on the bottom of post and nothing happens, I can click a PM link on the bottom of a post and that's fine.

If someone puts a link to a picture in a post, same thing doesn't work. Doesn't work on a link to a story in a post either.

I've got up to date virus protection.

The other thing that's happened is my favourite list (bookmarks) have arranged themselves into alphabetical order...spontaneously! Is this unusual or just me?

If anyone can shed any light on any of that I'd be eternally grateful. If you have any ideas, please talk slowly...you know like you're speaking to a technologically deficient person...

Thanks...she with furrowed brow:(

I recently had to completely reinstall IE5.5 because of a similar problem -- I managed to lose the file association for ".URL" in the registry and couldn't rebuild it.

The favorites is fairly common with a power loss -- I often have to re-arrange the icons on my desktop for the same reason.

It's also a registry problem, but fairly easy to fix just by re-arranging them to your liking and logging out and back in to insur ethe order is pwermanently updated inthe registry.

If you have a "Go-Back" program or feature restoring back before the power outage should fix your problems, or if you have a back-up of the registry available to restore, that might fix it also.

Thanks

Thanks WH, you're a big help. I'm not too fussed about the order of the bookmarks stuff so much as the URL thing, that is driving me nuts. I think I'm going to have to do the reload Explorer process.
Thanks again.;)
