Before I begin...a special thanks to Minsue, I think and all on the thread about 'southern litizens' and Cloudys posts. I hope all is well...
Perhaps it is because I have been a newsman on radio for most of my life and because I have been through a few hurricanes, in Florida, Mississippi and North Carolina...
Following the approach of Ivan for several days, and intensly as it approached landfall...flipping back and forth between CNN, MSNBC, FOX, HEADLINE NEWS, and the Weather Channel until the wee hours of the morning and again today....
The triple and possibly quadruple hits(Jeanne) on Florida and the Gulf Coast, has brought out the best in people...it seems to me.
I would like to offer a public 'thank you' to the tens of thousands of volunteers in the Red Cross, Salvation Army and each and every local disaster relief groups that have responded with time, effort and money before, during and after these storms.
It makes me proud to be a part of this society that reaches out during times of emergency.
The devastation, as shown on television, will disrupt the lives of millions for weeks and months and even years to come. There is something truly magnificent that flows through this society that engenders the kind of people that will, '..get right up, start all over again...'
A hearty thank you! and a well done to all!
