Hurricane Ivan

As some have just gotten power back, it'll be a blessing that Ivan (should he not wobble) will roll on by the west coast of Florida...

I am on the east coast of Florida and was one of the very few that didn't lose power, water, or phone during Frances. My family which live in west-central Florida didn't fair so well and neither did the community across the highway from me. But, at my house, we simply got wind and rain. I'm certainly finding that I'm ready to be done with hurricane season this year.

The attitude of some around here is lax and they don't care anymore and some in the Keys feel that it's all been much ado about nothing and are angry at having evacuated.

Mother Nature is a tricky bitch...and is worthy of respect and not a small amount of fear.

better to evacuate and be safe than sorry. after andrew went threw florida in the early 90's people started to take huricanes more seriously. the damage they many show are of mobile homes. however i have seen houses completly destroyed by huricanes.

Take the advice of the experts people and stock up on canned goods at the begining of huricane season. bottled water too.

but the path of a huricane can change at a momentsd notice. How many where supposed to hit florida in years past and instead went along the coast and hit georgia and the carolinas instead?

Florida i am affraid to say is probably going to get hit alot more in the next few years.

No joke
MLadyPain in Melbourne still can't go home 'cause of the lack of power & damage
People need to take it seriously

I've heard they'll "retire" Ivan from the names because this storm is alraedy so deadly. God bless those along The Gulf Coast

If we do get 50 mph gusts here like they are saying, you may be better off there than in the dark here. I'd leave today if I were you.

They just put me through a tornado warning. It is over now. That will get your attention. Still under a watch until 9.

Yes, we're getting them here in Carolina, too. My county just got put under a flood watch. :(

Hope the Litogether doesn't get flooded out!

hope you guys are all okay. But here's an almost good thought..

You're at the Litogether and a tornado watch comes, so you all get evacuated to the basement. You're there, in the dark all night with a bunch of pervs..

There IS a silver lining to every cloud!! :D

I still have power. But this rain is going cause some people major problems. Especially in the mountains.
Charlotte should be fine.

I spent both hurricanes at work. I am a nurse/Risk Manager for a long term care facility in Flagler County, Florida (just north of Daytona Beach). That job puts me in charge of the disaster planning for the facility. *wry smile*

Fortunately, we didn't have to evacuate for either hurricane, although our facility is east of I-95 and less than 2 miles from the Intracoastal. We were VERY lucky that both hurricanes just missed us. Lots of wind and rain. Loss of power (our generator is fueled for 5+ days).

My Dom and I stayed at the facility both times (my vacation was cancelled for Frances :(). What fun LOL, bedding down with 120 wonderful residents and the staff, plus their kids, family, and a pet or two.

It was a lesson in patience, and teeth gritting. But at least I had a home left to go home to, and my power and phone came back on after 3 days or so. I was luckier than most that were south of me.

I am SO over hurricanes, but have to continue to keep one eye on the computer several times daily.

I'll be glad when November 30 gets here.

Glad everyone is doing well.

The wind stopped, and the rain stopped, and then the power went out for 90 minutes. Now I hear thunder. And the rain is picking up. Guess I better unplug. There is no tornado watch so I will sleep well.

I do Brevard SOMEtimes, O-town occasionally (am usually working)
Was at the last O Munch

And Edwin is a jerk, it's not "his" munch, he's just ONE of the organizers

Ivan Redux..

He's risen from the dead... Hope our Texas and Louisiana people are gonna be okay. You know, 6 months of snow can get freaking annoying, but I'm sure glad I'm in the Great White North and not Hurricane Alley..

You east coasters be careful, too. Looks like Jeanne's gonna be a bitch.
