Hunters (O.C.C.)

Jackson Underhill
(Warrior)
29
6'6
230lbs
Bio:

Jackson was born into a catholic family, he was raised to be religious and rigid in his beliefs. However on his 9th birthday his family was accosted by a gang of young Vampires as they made there way home from Church. Jackson watched as his entire family was slaughtered by the vicious bastards. His faith in god was shattered, but as the Vampires turned on him and were about too butcher him, he was saved, by a priest.

Though he never regained his faith Jackson swore to hunt Vampires until he fell in battle against them. He wields a large battle axe, and is skilled with a bow. His strength is great for a man's though it pales in comparison to a Vampyre.

One of his greatest strengths and weakness' is his ruthless desire to kill every vampire he encounters. He will risk life, limb, and friend in the name of his hunt.

He is also and arachnaphobe, he finds spiders and scorpions absolutely terrifying.

OK then, you got my vote AriesWolf. Now I'd really like to see this thing started. I'm pretty excited about the setup and would love to get going. :)

If we compare to pen and paper RPG, the leader's not always th same. Warriors become leader when we come to confrontation. Depending on what's going on, the "final decision" may depend on any character. I'm sure my character's better at taking it then the warrior if we're speaking about what to do with this magical rod. But if we decide to go sneaking in the forest to approach the evil's lair, then the ranger's gonna be a better leader...

Of course every character his own area of expertise. That, after all, is what makes team roleplaying so exciting. The characters have to combine their talents and abilities to succeed. I think the notion of the term 'leader' that Gothi wanted us to clear is someone who has the last say if there's a decision to make, e.g. 'Take the left or right way' or 'Split the group or stay together.'

This does not mean that we can not have a discussion about those problems. But having a democratic voting before each and every decision imho just hinders gameplay. Plus Gothic indicated he just needs this lead character for story reasons...

You know, both your posts made me consider the likelihood of a leader. As you say, Daniela22, a leader has the final decision in matters of conflict, but how do you get to be leader? There are several ways: charisma, appointment, expertise, established trust and so on. What all of these tend to require though is time, whether time with everyone together or time building a team unit that others then join and must accept to be part of. Given we're a ragtag bunch who have never met each other though, how much would we each trust each other. Yes, we would possibly come together out of necessity - vampires aren't puppies after all, you can't rub their noses in it and tell them not to do it again. But when people who haven't built a cohesive unit face something essential they frequently fall into conflict, possibly even not listening to each other or worse. Now, don't get me wrong, as Gothic needs a leader for the storyline, that's fine with me. It just feels like we'd still all be too independent for that leader to have much leadership authority.

Point taken, BadForm. Your reasoning is quite convincing. It would indeed be most realistic for an arbitrarily created group to have them choose their leader over time (and the resulting conflicts may even spice up the story).

However, I'm not keen on killing this story even before the IC thread has been opened by endlessly discussing those points. (So I hope noone's annoyed by my continued posting on this question?) It is fine with me if we choose a leader for story reasons right from the beginning. After all it's Gothic's problem to explain this decision in his opening post ;) If this leads to conflicts between our characters it might even add to the atmosphere.

So AriesWolf still has my vote but I'm quite happy to accept any other decision.

Btw: I can't imagine how gorgeous the IC thread will be if we're having discussions like this in the OOC thread. ;)

I have to agree with BadForm, it is true that a rag tag group would have no leader right off the bat. But, I do believe that Jackson is the most experienced of the characters, Except for perhaps BadForms very sexual cleric? In a tight spot, such as being surrounded by Vampires I think it would be natural for the veteran of the group to take charge. If it makes it easier I am going to age him to about 29.

I have to get my two sense in. I agree that there would be no leader in the beginning, perhaps we should see how the first posts come out, see which character takes the strangest role and helps the development more, after all someone well not follow a person who makes unwise decision.

In any case it does not signify as this is goths story story and not ours, what ever the group decides I am fine with as long as they do not start writing my characters actions themselves.

Remember the old comedy sketch about an army detachment being asked for a volunteer?

Sergeant: So, will anyone who wishes to volunteer please step forwards!

Everyone steps back in unison, except for one dumb schmuck who remains where he is but in comparison to the rest of the line then appears to have taken a step forwards.

Well, as everyone seems to have taken a step back except for AW, who actually DID step forwards, then might I suggest he be our dumb sch... ummm... I mean our volunteer as leader?

Oh, and don't mind the debate I started. Anyone whose ever conversed with me outside a thread, and anyone whose ever written with me in a meaningful thread will likely tell you I'm an awkward sumgun who'd debate whether the sun was yellow or not given half a chance. ;)

Final note: when will the thread actually start and can it be posted here? Only on rare occassions do I check for interesting new threads on the board. Mostly I start my own, check the "all posts" from the profile of writers I find interesting, or focus solely on threads I'm currently working on. That being the case, I won't see the thread unless it gets posted here.

Well I have no complaints if AriesWolf wants to lead us lambs to the slaughter.

Hehe althoughs who want to lead step forward
*takes two steps back*

Just wanted to drop a dime and say Im here...been listening. Sorry i havent started the thread yet...RL beat me down a bit but im back. Ill work on it tonight. Im glad to see you guys discussing the leader thing. Talk to you all later.

nice to see you back, um this could get interesting with such a strong cast looking forward to posting.

While the holding back is not intentional... hopefully in this case.... the suspense for starting will make it all the more sweeter when we finnally DO begin, lol.

Oh yeah i wanted to clear another thing up. I mentioned a bit ago that its basically like D&D, i was reffering to character generation. The world IS like that as well... but its not really a true D&D setting. I mention this cause the vamps in Hunters will have strenghts/weaknesses that are both familiar and not familiar to you guys, wich i think is fitting since everyone is more or less supposed to be new to this (give or take a few of you).

Ok im done rambling. Back to work.

A loner....

That's often what the others would say about her, if asked.... "You don't want to bother with her, she's.... a loner"

How can one be a loner when part of a group? A group of Hunters?

She was as much of a Hunter as the rest of them, the ragtag group that they were. But yes, she ideed was ... a loner...

Not many knew her real name. She went by the name Red, plain and simple.

Not many knew her heritage, her family, her anything, and to tell you the truth, she preferred it that way. The less they knew, the better off for her. Often, too much knowledge was just too dangerous.

They knew only what they needed to know. Her name was Red, and within her blood, buried in her soul, gleaming in her eyes, was the very Monster that they hunted.... Red was part Vampire. Born to a human woman, who had been raped and bitten by a Vampire male. The woman survived, by some miracle, and gave birth to her.

She looked normal. And in the beginning, she pretty much acted normal. She could withstand light, she did not need blood to survive. That is not to say that Red didn't prefer the darkness because she did. That is not to say she did not enjoy, and even indulge in, the taste of blood. But that was something she did not talk about. That was none of their concern. What they didn't know, they being the general population as much as it meant the group she was currently traveling with, what they did not know, wouldn't hurt them.

That was one reason she kept to herself, for the most part.

Now, one may ask, why did she hunt....

There were many reasons that could ring true for her reasonings...

She hated what she was and vowed to hunt down and kill any Vampire she encountered, hoping that maybe, maybe she would find and slaughter the one who did this to her and her mother....

She was good at it, so why not ....

She was searching for the Sire.... to beg Him to finish what was started and make her a full blooded Vampire....

Perhaps there is another reason.... or reasons....

This was something else Red kept to herself.... for now...

Name: RED (full name unknown by the others)

Age: Looks to be 21 years old, but considering her mingled blood, she could be much older

Height and Weight: Average for both ...5'7" ... 120 to 125 pounds

Description: Long deep red hair, pale almost golden eyes.

She is a Hunter... not a Fighter.... she prefers to lure her prey and kill with the strike of a slightly curved black hued steel blade that is strapped to her thigh.

She is part Vampire ... part Human.... and yes.... she has fangs....

Welcome aboard hun, Ive missed posting with you.

Great bio...we need to talk about Red's strengths and weaknesses though.

Ok everyone after long last ive finnally started the In Character thread. Im still not quite ready for you guys to start posting yet. But if you havent already and wanna start writing your intro posts out on a notepad file or something, that would be prudent. Im just waiting to do my first post wich will set everyone else up..

Just remember your first post should be how your character got to where he is, that was originally gonna be a town called bywater im not so sure now, ill work it out in the first post...and then your second post (after my second) will be everyone already knowing each other for a
about a month or so...

Hunters

Thats the link, check it out.. let me know if you have any questions. Im gonna post a basic outline for the weaknesses and strengths of vamps...both for Ambrosia to help her decide how her characer is and for everyone else, when your posting your second posts cause your characters would have gone through some form of bounty hunter training by then.

I also have a few pieces of erratta i need to post..the first is an atlas wich ill add to as you guys travel around.. since im not drawing a map like i thought i was gonna its just text... but basically it has all the towns and areas so in case anyone needs to decide on something that has to do with the lay of the land. It makes sense that you all know how the kingdom is laid out since you have all lived in it most if not all of your lives depending on your backstories...

Ok thats all i needed to update you all on... dont post yet... just gimme a bit more time...

as always let me know whats on your mind.

Later everyone.

Hey, Prissy, you're going somewhere? Somewhere fun I hope? Will you be bringing back gifts for everyone?

hey so i am back from vacation but no one has their initial post up, was there a delay, or shall we start soon, let me know.

PS know badform I did not bring back presents, just me.

No presents, just yourself? Then does that mean you're gonna serve yourself up on a silver platter for everyone's delight and delectation? (joking).

BTW: Is this thread going to go live? It's been so long I'm beginning to assume it died.

I second BadForm's request. I'm sure Prissy will be very tasty ;)

I PMed Gothic some days ago but he didn't reply. I'd be very sad to see this die before it really started. I felt we would have made a great team... :(

Agreed! We need some Vampiric Heads to Chop! Were is Gothic? Vacation? Work? or worse EXTENDED HOLIDAY'S?!?!
