She had difficulty standing when Alexa left her side but still managed to do so, and her gaze returned to Michael, only to widen at the words.
She wasn't certain of what she expected him to say to her..but certainly..that wasn't it.
She didn't..couldn't focus - not until she came face to face with herself. It was the first time she saw herself. Not just the injuries..but after everything that had happened in general - the toll that it had actually taken on her.
What was worse was that her gaze did not leave the mirror - did not return to him. Almost immediately she was withdrawing, amber eyes seeming to cloud over somewhat as she quite visibly distanced herself from him despite the fact that she was barely a foot away.
She hadn't had time. Proper time to take in everything and he was forcing it upon her.
She saw every bit of damage. The depth of the wounds, visible teeth marks. And her gaze travelled lower - eyes scanning the bruises that still marked her wrists - his bite that claimed her as his mate.
The term breakdown did not seem to even come close or begin to explain what was happening.
Her heart was pounding in her head and it became clear that she wasn't even actually looking at anything in the mirror anymore, her vision unfocused - staring off at something that was unseen perhaps by everyone but herself.
"I'm sorry..."
The words were quiet, but she flinched at the slightest movement, shying away from him.
She had done it before - from Alexa, from Siobhan but now him. And not because he was upset with her - but because he was a male. The mere thought of someone touching her.
She recoiled from him rather suddenly, taking a few staggered steps back before forcibly pressing her back against the wall, only then sinking to the ground - where she looked up to still see her broken image in the mirror.
She was trembling somewhat, forcing herself to look away from her garish reflection.
She wasn't okay - but she hadn't had to believe it until she actually saw everything that had happened in the last few days.
