Alexia Kenton
"Thanks for taking care of her for me - I thought she was never going to take the hint! Can you believe it? Flirting with a married man right in front of his wife?! Makes you wonder what some of the other people who stay here must be like!"
Alexia was somewhat comforted by Brinn’s words, but still she could not help but think;
“.. but he’s not a married man and she certainly was leaving no doubt as to what she’d like to be getting up to!”
Turning suddenly she was unable to hide her expression.
She found herself wrapped in his arms.
She looked up at him curiously. The servants were all gone and for now they were alone, so why ….?
"It's okay, you know. You're quite safe here.
There is nothing to worry about tonight - you're warm, protected and cared for."
Her heart gave a lurch and her cheeks pinked as she gazed up at him.
But she knew she must not let herself get carried away with all this.
”Yes … I know … I have my husband to protect me … “
She whispered, the words had been intended to be jocular, but they merely came out breathlessly.
Turning away from his gaze, she spoke softly.
”I … I hope it doesn’t … inconvenience … you too much, posing as my husband… “
She murmured hesitantly.
”I mean … well… I realise the obligation you must feel and … the… constraints … all this must put on you … “
She hedged nervously.
She couldn’t ask him outright if he was going to see that girl.
She would indeed sound like a suspicious wife.
”Perhaps … when you return from escorting me to Wales… then you can…. I’m sure she’d be as willing then… she.. seemed eager enough, even though she believed you to be married … “
Her cheeks coloured as she averted her face, standing with his arms still around her, her words sounded absurd, but she saw realisation dawn on Brinn’s face and hid her face ashamedly in his chest.
”I’m sorry .. it.. it’s none of my business… “
She apologised hastily, berating herself for not holding her tongue!
