WFLA-TV reported that Barbee is one of nearly 50 teachers planning to resign from the school district. A district spokesperson told the outlet on May 18 that the district had 150 unfilled instructional positions.
parents had all signed the permission slip allowing their kids to see the movie which has an openly LGBTQ+ character in the lead role. But the film is all about saving the planet and was linked to an Earth science class. One parent, a newcomer to the school board and affiliated with the crackhead Moms for Liberty group, made the complaint and instigated investigations into the teacher who showed the PG film. The majority of parents were all way more concerned about the lack of teachers and support staff in their school district.
Over 100 people registered to speak during public comment and many shared their concerns over the school district's high numbers of teacher vacancies, with one high school student saying teachers are "scared to say anything that will get them fired."

"You need to listen to us when we say that the rainbow in our classroom is not indoctrinating us, seeing two girls together in a Disney movie is not brainwashing us, and your policies are not protecting us from anything," another high school student said during the meeting.

If I were a teacher, there is no way in hell I would want to teach in Florida. I would leave, too! Not in that toxic environment that their hateful troll of a governor is fostering upon both kids, parents, and educators alike.
i think, though, that a lot of teachers are really torn: with ties to family and friends, and even a sense of responsibility to their students... if they leave, what will these poor kids be subjected to under the guise of education which, in reality, is wiping certain aspects of history and promoting ignorance.

They’ll teach elsewhere or, as many are doing, realize the job just isn’t worth it.
