Humans are the Alien Creatures

His voice calling her caused her to sleepily open her eyes. "Izes mised yaoo."

It took effort but she managed to put her hand on his chest as the drugs still keeps her half sedated.

"Gaia sees Baloo inna ska eye." She mumbled as her mind fogs. However her heart was beating steadily and her breathing natural enough that it put peace back in their home.

Boy rose from his spot and licked her hand. He was glad to have her back as well. He whimpered that she wasn't petting him but made churring noises like when she rubbed his chin.

The yellow leaf was still covering her wound and she was still warmer then usual but as Noel told the head Keeper. "It's part of the healing process."

"I missed you too Gaia, so very much." He whispered, overjoyed to see her open her eyes. "You did?" He asked in reply to her mention of seeing him in the sky. "Look, Boy missed you too!" He directed her attention to the Yar Jah Ken. "And we have a new family member, Little Bear. Little Bear! Come say hello to Gaia, she and I are your new guardians."

Gaia smiles at Blue Eyes even when he fuzzes up in her field of vision. She fought the poisonous effects longer then most and while pregnant made her life at higher risk. With help Gaia was able to feel boy.

"Gaia mised yaoo boy. Yaoo keeped Ba loo .sa fet." The smile getting weaker as her need to rest grows.

Gaia looks at the fuzzy shape coming towards her. She inhaled a familiar scent.. Memaw's sweet buns.. Gaia turned her head in confusion. How did this child have a smell like her mother?

Little Bear climbed into the bed and gasps in surprise. "Bee dah"

He hugged her tightly happy to see her. "Mes flewd Bee dah!"

When she didn't return the hug Little Bear sat up. This wasn't Breeda she was too old and Blue Eyes called her Gaia. "Yaoos mama?"

"Easy now Little Bear, this is not Breeda, this is Gaia. Please now, let Gaia rest, she is still weak." Blue couldn't help but chuckle as Little Bear noticed the swell of her belly. "Yes, she will be a mama soon. But you must let her sleep now. Here, throw this to Boy, play catch." He tossed a boar's leg bone to Little Bear.

Little Bear was climbing down and playing with Boy until boredom overtook him and he went back to sleep.

Gaia slept the night and by morning was stirring and trying to get up. Her body was still weak but Gaia was hungry and knew Blue must be hungry as well.

It was in this silence that she noticed little Bear and how he made her think of water when he was small. She wondered how he got here and the smells of home that linger around him.

"Baloo... waks app. Ware yaoo gits dis .sm all wun?" Now came the questions that Noel worried about.

Blue sat up, still half asleep. "From your villiage. To save your life, we went there and they sent Little Bear back with us. They wanted to see you but you were being cared for here." He went to her and hugged her, kissing her, loving her with gentle, tenderness.

Gaia held Blue Eyes against her chest. She felt his heart beating calmly but his weariness was surfacing.

"Deed Wen sen dis .sm all wun ta ahs?" She would take accept thus without complaint or more questions. After all her father was the chief of her tribe and his words were obeyed.

It never occurred to her that her brother was old enough to be in charge. Gaia also didn't know about the blindness her mother has or the death of some of her friends. Like little Bear's mother.

"Yes, Wen sent Little Bear to be with us, he is ill and he needs your help to survive Gaia." He continued to stroke her hair and smile as he thought about his short visit. "Your family is beautiful Gaia. I love them they were so kind to me. I love you all the more for having met them."

Gaia went quiet. It was his words that confused her. Blue Eyes saw her tribe and brought back a small one.

Finally she looked at Little Bear. "Woo hees mamma?"

The unanswerable question was out and once again Gaia was perplexed.

"Baloo Izes hun gree?" Gaia asks searching her baskets for anything to eat. Her stomach was grumbling. Gaia took a string off the sugar cane and sucked on it as she was mixing dough to make sticky buns.

Gaia's silence put Blue on edge, he was uncertain what she would say or do next.

Finally, she asked him who Little Bear's mother was.

He smiled softly, knowing that the truth would only cause her more sadness, so he said only what was true, NOW.

"You are now, we are to be his guardians until he is of age."

He watched her turn to cooking and ask him if he was hungry. "Yes, more than you will ever know." He answered, wetting his lips. It was true that his stomach was empty, but what he really hungered for was her.

He went to her and touched her back softly and affectionately, but apart from that, he stayed out of her way so that she could make them her special and sweat sticky buns.

He would hold back his hunger for her until later, once they could be alone.

Gaia fixed them breakfast and when little bear woke he was a bundle of energy. Gaia questioned him with clicks of her tongue. Finally it stopped and she gave them grilled meat in bread with sugar and honey.

Boy tried to snag a bite from Blue Eyes' when his hand was low at the circle. Gaia caught him after a second attempt. "Ba oy!"

Little bear laughed at the animal slinking off to a corner to sulk.

Gaia felt better after eating but still was tired. She remarked about bathing and Boy began barking at the doorway. She moved Little Bear back from the doorway and waited.

She didn't know her cooking tempted another boar to their doorway.
