A tongue-and-cheek website has since appeared called Heard Island Pebbles, which says the penguins on the uninhabited isle will 'enter international trade'.

a website is to sell pebbles to raise money for the conservation charity, having a smile along the way:

'We figured if we're getting taxed, we might as well start exporting,' a feathered spokesperson is quoted as saying on the website.

The product hitting the company's shelves: pebbles. Customers can buy either a $10 digital one or a physical one for a donation of between $50 and $200.

The website said the real pebbles are found on mainland Australia, which shared the Indian Ocean with the island, in order to not disturb the penguins' habitat.
All of the Heard Island Pebbles' proceeds will be donated to WWF Australia to help protect the penguins and support broader conservation efforts in the region. So far, it has raised over $4500.

So we're talking fraud here?

Somehow I don't think that's going to work. It's certainly not a good look when you commit fraud in your efforts to make Trump look foolish.

But you Libs should go for it. The DOJ can prosecute you right along with Letticia James.

Nobody needs help to make Trump look foolish.

No, “we’re talking” humor and raising money for a good cause — two things MAGAs know nothing about. 👍

And here in Mainland Australia there is a movement developing to recommend that we adopt the magic formula Trump used to calculate Tariff rates. Our trade with the USA is surprisingly small but we actually buy twice as much from the USA as we sell to them. So, using the same ridiculous half assed formula the USA is using for every body, we should in future be charging a tariff of 36% on all goods imported from the USA.

OR, you know, you could not tariff US goods at all and we'd do the same.

Just a thought

lol, you think......not fucking likely...maybe go check the tariff rates on trade between Australia and the US. Instead of making assumptions on what it is.

I'm surprised Australia hasn't torn up the Submarine deal. I'm sure that's coming though.

I heard you're getting a bonus on cattle sales to China now that Trump has implemented his China tariffs.

But you should also export opals to the U.S. at the prices now established for pebbles. I mean, it's all stone, ain't it?

Australian trade with the USA was covered by a free trade agreement ( with the Bush administration in 2005) Trade has grown between us from that by 50%, favouring the USA by a 2 to 1 ratio Trump scrapped that agreement, unilaterally applying 25% to steel and aluminium and 10% to everything else. Last year 2024, Australia cancelled most of its remaining tariffs because they cost more to collect than they were worth.

And that is not the main problem: the accepted view in Australia is that Trump cannot be trusted to honour a deal, any deal, on any subject. The Japanese government with whom we agree. has described Trump as an extortionist, Accurate statements even to the most modest legal intellect.

Meanwhile the Chinese whom we do not agree with politically, drive hard bargains but they honour deals. They can be trusted far more than the USA on trade issues.

We are in the middle of an election at the moment and have not contacted the USA on this issue yet. It may not be worth bothering, just let the trade dwindle and sell more LNG to China/SE Asia and wheat/ beef/pork to the same region. Asia is a far far bigger market than the USA, 3 Billion customers, not 300 Million

In case you missed this, I highlighted it since it is the most relevant statement to you dumbfuck Americans who think you're kings of the world...

The USA is only 27% of the total of world trade, and Trump just fucked the USA's three best trading partners.....it'll be like 15% or less this year.
