That's under the "Special" button on mine, which it right next to the "Format" button. Is there a "More" button anywhere? I missed that step at the beginning on my rundown.

I suspect you are using the Windows version; I have a Mac.

Just seems like a pretty important feature to completely leave out of a Mac version. I'd keep digging through the menus and looking for any buttons you may have overlooked.

I find it trivial to the point of not having to think about it.

Here's my workflow:
1) Write story in LibreOffice Writer (Windoze, Linux, Mac, doesn't matter, LibreOffice runs on all of them.)
2) Export to HTML, then drag and drop HTML onto the web-based tool I wrote to convert HTML to tags acceptable to Lit's textbox.
3) Profit!

Yeah, knowledge is the best solution. Know the tags you want to use and type them in as you go.

I have spent the whole afternoon editing an HTML version of a story exported from the version of Word. Even when using the Web Page Filtered option, which is supposed to exclude Word-specific stuff, the output is still riddled with unnecessary tags, some of which are incompatible with the Lit preview function. All of this so that I could use <kbd> for a few blocks of text.

Anyway, my question is what editor do you use to create HTML files? Is there something that auto-completes tags like <b> and <p>, and with a WYSIWYG view? I am particularly interested in anybody using a Mac.

I use a Mac. I do not use MS Word; Word is evil. I used TextEdit with a few simple markdown tags like <b>, <i>, <center>, and <br> for my first several years here. I kept my original documents in their original text editor on my iCloud, and copied and pasted them into Lit's Preview window to see how they look. It's not a 100% accurate look at how the story will eventually appear once approved and posted here, but it's close enough. I no longer use TextEdit, I use Apple Pages because it's better at autosaving and has a text-to-speech function (useful for editing), but the mechanism remains the same: keep the original document as the source of record, and copy & paste it into Lit's preview window. This helps with editing, too, giving the story a different look that can help me notice issues I might have missed in the original document.

Mac's text-to-speech function works with any app. Just press Option-Escape.

That's not what option-esc does in TextEdit on my MBP. Instead, it deletes any selected text and brings up a menu of single words.

However, if I select some text and right-click, a menu pops up that includes a Speech sub-menu. I would have to look into how to change the default voice, which is mechanical and is different than the one that Pages uses (which I recall choosing a year or two ago).

Hmm. I tested it before posting, and it worked. Is it possible that you have activated a keyboard shortcut linked to Opt-Escape?

You can change the voice via System Settings > Accessibility > Voice Control. I don't think any of the voices are great, especially in terms of phrasing, but they will be the same in any app.

I thought you'd taken it down, but it turned out the whole SDF was down the other day. I don't use it often, but it's quick and easy when I need to check my blockquotes. Thanks!

SDF is more of a clubhouse than a web host. All membership supported. You pay your dues and take what you can get. But a good group of people.
