It's actually an older term, similar to the modern "pussy," which also means cat. "Cunny" is an older term for rabbit, and can be seen in today's Coney Island, which is a reference to its former superfluity of rabbits.

That being said, if I heard a woman call it her cunny, I'd be pretty turned off. But if you need a historically appropriate slang from a few centuries ago, there you have it.
