I've been receiving some really good suggestions as to what to include in the archiving. One such suggestion came from Weird Harold, with regard to the "Dialogue" indexing I did yesterday. He suggested I include a link to Whispersecret's How To on How To Make Characters Talk , which I thought was a brilliant idea. I thought some more about this and decided it would be a good idea to do a whole How To section/thread.

So, my request here is for suggestions for good, informative and useful How To's that AH'ers have come across at Lit.

Which ones in particular have helped you in your writing?

Any that you think every author should read?

Any which have been useful to you, with regard to improving your readership?

And so on.

Please paste any suggestions in this thread.

Thanks!

Lou

Killermuffin's 'How to punctuate like a pro' is pretty good, and of course, once the opus is complete, there's my own on how to include Bold or Italic in your submissions. It also covers the basic elements of submission, too. That's submission as in submitting stories, of course, not the other kind

:D Cheers, Alex.

Maybe I should write a How To on the other kind, as Lou. No, I didn't really say that, I'm a sensible librarian. ;)

For the points Alex's excellent essay doesn't cover, my How To essay Testing Your Story's Formating covers finding and fixing the problems word processing programs can cause with "Special Characters."

Thanks, WH. I'm finding there's many hidden gems there. :)

Another thought from passing by your archived thread titles: Specifically about "Editing"; are you going to link any of the excellent discussions in the Editor's Forum?

In general, are relevant threads from other forums -- how to, editors', BDSM, LGBT, etc -- fair game or do you want to limit thread links to the AH?

I was most certainly planning to put a link in to the Editor's Forum, and some of the excellent threads there. Also, if threads in other forums are related to writing, or stories, in general, then they are fair game, too. I'll broaden the scope after I've dealt with what I've done here already.
