How do you guys get over word blockage? Writer's block?

Somedays I know what I want to write, but can't for the life of me think of the word I'm looking for. Not even the thesaurus will help me.

Like today, I was working on a poem. I wanted to describe depth. Think I could think of 'depth'? LOL

When you're stuck on finding a word, what do you do to help?

I pout.

It doesn't help much, but that's what I do.

I don't consider one word that I can't think of as writer's block. It is frustrating, but I think of it as just early "Oldtimer's" disease. :)

yer not a Yankees fan are ya??
ahhhh Pat
ya have to win it by honor , purity, and dirt digging and being hungry.
Not because you can buy all the good players on the market.

in Boston we quote Ghandi:

" When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall - think of it, always."

thus the " Evil Empire" will fall.......

we are patient
because
we are right

scotch anyone??

If I am on-line, I ask a friend. We then throw words out there until it's the one I needed!

IF that doesn't work...then I'd go with what Liar said and pout!

When I get stuck writing, I write something else for a few minutes; a quick description of walking to the store, a person I saw yesterday, etc. Sometimes things are seen more clearly from the corner of the eye.

it seems when i lose my muse, i write about green guts, ass slapping, or bugs

if i could have
but just one wish,
i'd be a bug,
your foot could squish.

If I may return to PatCarrington's solution to a tightening of the verbal sphincter;
i have 3 or 4 beers.

I am reminded of an interview with Leonard Cohen where he bemoaned the fact that he rarely wrote a poem in one sitting.

"Some of my poems are four or six draft poems ... most are twenty drafts or more."

Now personally, after three or four draft beer I am still lucid and reasonably articulate, but after twenty, (even allowing that a draft beer in this little part of the planet is only 6 to 8 ounces), I am certainly at a loss for words. So lift a glass (make mine a double please) to Leonard and damn the thesaurus.
