How to tell if you are obsessive compulsive. Someone accused me of being this, wtf is it, and how do I tell if I am. Anyone?

Someone who suffers from an obsessive-compulsive disorder finds it difficult to lead his or her life without constantly performing certain tasks. Some people, for example, find it difficult to get through the day without washing their hands over and over as if they are beset by unknown germs at all times and the only way to survive is to cleanse themselves nonstop.

For a much better explanation, I would sugges doing a Google search and looking at web pages from authoritative sources like the AMA or the American Psychological Association.

Just a guess

but I'd love to know under what circumstances you were accused of this mental condition.

If you're really a truck driver and that's a picture of yourself on the avatar maybe they just meant you aren't quite driving in the same lane as the other truckers.

No?

That isnt me, that would be Columbia from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. ;]

I am a truck driver, and the person said I was obsessive about keeping my house and vehicles clean, body clean, hands clean and about being punctual when I need to be somewhere. I might be a little particular, but never really thought of myself as "obsessive". Thanks for the tip, I'll do some reading up on it.

That reminds me of the time my baby brother called me up, he was doing a take home nuero physic test and it asked if he washed his hands obsessively, I remember saying no, you are just thorough and realized as I was talking to him on the cordless phone I was washing my hands!!!!! Our mom was a microbiologist, we wash our hands.

I think obsessive is more like when one of my friends checks her shoes 3 times before coming into the house in case she might have glass on the bottom of them, it happened once long ago and yet everytime she comes in the house she checks.

Obsessive/Compulsive

Does keeping your house, vehicles etc interfere with other more enjoyable parts of your life? Does it interfere with relationships? Can you sleep at night if everything isn't perfectly clean?

If the answer to these questions is no, I wouldn't let it bother me. Someone probably just wishes they had your knack for keeping things nice.

I tease my mom about being obsessive/compulsive about cleaning, but mostly she is not. Though she can't sleep if dishes aren't done so I guess she is kind of o/c about that.

My younger brother suffers from OCD ( among a host of other Psychiatric ailments but that's neither here nor there.) and as it has been mentioned before the habits are only classifies as " obsessive" when they interfere w/ your ability to function.
For example:
my brother must have his clothing folded/hung a specific way and his shoes lined up just so in his closet. He cannot be in a room knowing that a shirt has been improperly folded and put away. He hyperventilates, he sweats, literally freaks out until it's fixed. That is obsessive! What you're talking about just sounds like somebody who is particular about how they want their things.

Thanks Mskey. After listening to everyones helpful advice, and doing some reading... I have come to the conclusion that I am just really damn picky about things. Pity the fellow I get involved with. Dirty clothes on the floor, dishes in the sink bother me to the point of cleaning them up daily, but I cant imagine freaking out over it.

I do the exact same thing. The only side effect is that I wind up with a neat and clean house. :)

I wouldn't worry about it...I think if you were truly OC, you would recognize it immediately by reading about the usual signs.

In my opinion, all is fine and dandy. :)

Thanks Sheath. Glad to know I am not the only picky female out there. *sarcasm* :p

Obsessive: You are always checking your p's & q's.

Compulsive: You can't stop checking your p's & q's.

And I am NOT sexy!

Don't fall down the steps :( I understand the truth is hard to swallow. I don't expect you to be willing to admit your sexy'ness.

I may be obsessive-compulsive. So what, I'm happy and it doesn't bother anyone else! If ya don't like it oh well, your problem, not mine! ;)
