So, I have a shiny new riding crop and how the hell do you use it?
Its springy, so do you flick it? or swipe like a cane or a stick?

answers on a postcard please!

Seriously, you have to learn to twirl it in your hands, through your fingers even. When you can do this confidently, your hand grip will be the right balance of control and looseness, and you will find that you will be able to flick-snap the cracker really really hard if you want or need to.

It's a completely different technique from a cane or coilable whip. So totally different that there is really no similarity at all and little or nothing that can be transferred as far as technique goes from those implements back to the crop.

Personally, I have to suppose the crop is specifically made to be used - or at least best used - with a backward stroke as you are positioned (as though riding) on top of someone who is on their hands and knees.

Unless you can learn directly from someone who is already skilled with it, probably watching horse riders may be helpful.

There is a tradition that the hilt end is used as a type of dildo.

i like to feel it stroked across my bare skin first and between my legs and then a good downward stroke on my upturned arse works for me and whoever is wielding it .

Thank you for the replies.
I intend it to be more a intimidation or motivational tool than the main correctional instrument.

I like the idea of stroking it around the body and nipples as bluesky said
Leaving the sub wondering and worrying!

But I might have to actually use it in anger at sometime!

Mildly off-topic, but perhaps of interest if you decide that you really enjoy using the crop. Buy your crops at a farm store rather than a tack store (horse-related gear) or online kink store. The farm store will sell you two or three very usable crops for the price of one at either the tack or kink store.

it's very versatile.

Use it as a light cane, use the flap end to smack with, use it to prod and poke. I like to use the flap on genitals, you can kind of 'stir' it around in and over labia and clitoris.

I've never used one or anything of that nature in anger - it will learn when it has displeased you and your voice or attitude should suffice - but I never hit it in anger.

Well yes, "in anger" is just a figure of speech.
Always in control :)

The crop - and I mean a real crop, bought from an equestrian shop - is the most accurate of all the impact toys. Which means for example that it can be used to tantalise the clit repeatedly and rapidly, till she orgasms.

It's my favourite toy.

That sounds amazing. I'm totally new here. It can actually be used that way?!

Ideally, you use it just behind your leg as an enforcement of the leg aid. Otherwise, you just generate a horse that's numb to leg AND whip, instead of actually encouraging and training the horse to move off the leg. A crop can also be useful to use on the shoulder to help encourage a sharper turn, or to clarify when teaching a horse a combination of aids that are intended to direct the shoulder versus the entire body. It also can act as a "go" encouragement in this manner, but it's worth noting that you're hitting a horse where you want him to go. Kind of like smacking someone in the chest to get them to move forward faster. It works and is all you can do at certain times, but it's not ideal. A crop should ONLY be used on the rump when all else fails to move the horse forward, and the rider should be prepared for an...opinionated response.

Oh..wait...this is a BDSM forum. Uhmmmm

So yah you hit them with this whippy bit? I think? Dammit, I knew I studied the wrong information for the test... *slowly slides away*

I also slap the clit of my sub with it then run the shaft of it up and down her cunt and her ass pressing it harder and harder til she is about to explode then i use it on her ass.. making her scream and cum

We have the feathered version (about an inch of short leather fringe just above the business end), which is very entertaining for sensation play. I love it when Master brushes it past my nipples or clit, and it can be confusing when alternating from that to a quick snap.

Use it any way you want. Yes, flick it and yes, swipe it like a cane or a stick. Use your imagination.

I like to smack a bad pet's balls and cock with it. Then make him watch as I masturbate with it.

There you go, a person can use it on themself. A dominant could tell a sub to masturbate with the tool that made them cry a few minutes before.

They are great for manipulating with.

For example to fix posture with smacks and pokes.

You can move them with it, without touching them, its a mental thing.

You can flex it, smack it in your hand, etc. Accentuates certain statements for dramatic effect.

And then when you need it, they can deliver a quick bite.

So they are not a main event, but a supporting prop.

Stella, you totally get it!

Since there are a lot of horsey-set people where we live, we have a very nice equestrian shop nearby. What one of the ladies there told me was that a crop, with the wide tip is mostly to make a noise, to correct the horse. The riding whip, with it's narrow strip of leather is more of a pain correction tool for the horse. They sell very nice crops and whips, made in the USA for $10 and under, it's probably the only bargain in the store.

I am fortunate that Sir likes to tenderize the areas he is about to use. Most commonly with a flogger or riding whip. I think a very harsh flogger is best for the boobs before inter-mammary intercourse. The riding whip is delicious for preparing my clit and pussy for penetration. My favorite, however is when he makes me bend over and spread my cheeks while he tears up my butt hole with the whip and then rides me mercilessly back there :D:heart:.

Having grown up riding horses I was taught to use crops and riding whips in precisely the opposite manner. Most horses respond very well to warnings foreshadowing pain. A swat from the paddle shaped crop can be felt and is a bit of a shock but doesn't really hurt. The whip can be whistled over the riders head (not over the horses ears unless you like eating dirt), which will get the attention of all but the most combative horses. At that juncture you should only need to actually whip them maybe once (if that), and they know the sound of the whip means business. If all you have is the crop the heavier handle can be used like a cane (which were also commonly used in centuries past) to tap the flank or neck, but I was also taught to seriously consider dismounting as an alternative to genuinely beating a horse. Or just stop and pay close attention if the horse seems nervous or stressed. There have been several times a reluctant horse has spared me from close encounters with bears, bees, or badgers. Pushing a horse when you shouldn't can get a rider thrown and ditched in a very bad place.

I also grew up with family legends of those animals that were very much the exception.
