How to troubleshoot mac problems

hey there.
am working from an apple i-book.
the problem is that, despte my baby (bug) being very beautiful, she seems to have forgotten how to get her keys to always work. the main issues are: 8,i,k and the commer. if on for a while then she appears to 'heat up' proficiently enough to work, but this can take a while. any good suggestions?
if you reckon i need technical help and you are in the uk do you know any good apple help places based in north wales/the north west/or the midlands?

Could it just be goo built up from underneath the keyboard? Would a spritz of compressed air to dislodge any contaminants help?? It just seems odd that all the characters are in a row too. Didja spill something that might've dribbled down that path?

not spilled anything that i have noticed. and yeah, i noticed the whole linear thing. hum. what's a gal to do?
i have tried blowing the keys (makes a change from my lover...) and have tried sucking them too. oh dear oh dear.
no joy yet
maybe a professional clean is required...

No I don't have an Apple I-Book but I remember my old Powerbook & I could open up the base of it to replace memory and do all kinds of fidgeting. Can you do that to yours and get direct access to the keyboard? It might seem scary but if you can see the direct connectors, it might be helpful to see.

If I remember right, you might have to get a special screwdriver attachment.

And just be sure to keep your Mac AND your lover equally happy with all that blowing & sucking.

It might be a good time to have a Mac techie look at it anyway. It can't hurt too terribly except maybe for a few bucks. Is it time to install extra memory? You might be able to piggyback services that way & save some $$$.

I gotta become a Mac tech in England if this keeps up. I'd be dirt poor but I'd sure as heck would enjoy the view I'm sure.

On the iBook, the keyboard can easily be removed by pushing down on the switch/tab things between esc/F1 and F11/F12 and then pulling the keybord up. You may need to unlock it by twisting the little screw/lock bit between F5/F6 (it's also the num-lock LED).

My guess is that you spilled something into the keyboard and it shorted out one or more of the traces. If that's the case, than there isn't much you can do about it (and you probably can't open up the keyboard assembly to check without voiding the waranty). If your computer is still under warenty, I'd call Apple. They're pretty good about fixing/replacing whatever is wrong.

hum. it's not under warrenty, but quite frankly i'm far too much of a wuss to do it myself. what if i should break her further (ep my computer is defo female, despite being the 'blue' shade' and she is v delicate - as currently prooven, poor love!)

ahhhh! have removed the board nowt obvous and as u can tell the eys are stll not worng properly. hopefully they wll warm up soon coz t's really rrtatng.
unfortunately can't get anythng done untl xmas as no mac dealers n ths ed of the world.

No Mac dealers I can understand, but no Mac techs anywhere??? Besides it might even be a problem that a regular computer geek might be able to service regardless if he's a Mac or PC head.
