You start with a story idea or premise.

Then you start typing until you've exhausted the idea or premise.

Then you go back and delete the one third that is total crap and edit what is left into a story.

I can only tell you what I do. I think up a couple of characters that I find interesting and then put them into one of my many elaborate fantasies. Then, when I feel like I know where they will be going, in the short term at least, I just start telling myself the story in Word. Putting in the details that I would want in there if I was reading it.
I hope that helps, but it probably doesn't...lol

The best stories are ones you write for yourself - what interests you? What turns you on? Focus on the stories and characters and let the erotic parts weave into the whole.

I just wanted to say Hi again and Welcome!
I am too new a writer myself to be able to offer much in the way of advice.
All I know is just write what you feel. And find a good editor to help you clean it up once you are done. Listen to them. They are trying to help.
There are a number of excellant writers here as well as some published ones who are of course pretty good or they would not be published. Ask and they allmost all will do their very best to help.

Good luck and Welcome again to the AH.

When I very first started, it began with my personal experiences and then playing with woulda-coulda type stuff...I was writing about something I knew, but I was being creative too...

actually, two stories here are VERY close to what really happened...

The first part of step three is something i am good at :)

How do you think up the characters?

Women, women women women and then some more women or was that a rhetorical question?

This advice may work!

For me, it was more a question of how NOT to write them. The images in my head reached critical mass -- and HAD to be set free.

I'm really new to writing too, so don't know how much help this will be ... I started my first story based on a strong fantasy I had. I used myself as the main character and just wrote my thoughts, feelings and reactions into the fantasy as I went along. I must admit I still do base the main character on me - I find it easier to write that way but everyone has there own way of working their stories out.

It was a real leap of faith to put the story on to Literotica - I was terrified! But people were really kind, very helpful and motivated me to write more (and hopefully improve a bit).

Good luck with your writing, I look forward to reading your first story.

I have the experience and i know i have fun but when i try to write it down it sounds so boring. Maybe im just not meant to be a writer

Don't overanalyze your own writing. :)

Just write. Tell the story.

Then get someone you trust to look it over for you. Fix the parts they suggest. Repeat as necessary. ;)

I think if you worry about it TOO much, it takes all the fun out of it, and it'll show in the story.

Don't worry about it - just write it.

High five fello UKer!

I would need serious motivation to put a story out on lit. You are way brave!

I guess for me its also a question of what angle to follow cause people write so differently. Some are romantic and some just write about the sex etc.

Y'know -- I've heard similar advice given to women who have trouble achieving orgasm.

Well, if you think about it, the creative process has some similarities.....;)

Like this? (sorry Cloudy i coud not resist)

Don't overanalyze your own orgasm.

Just come. Tell your clitoris.

Then get someone you trust to look it over for you. Fix the parts they suggest. Repeat as necessary.

I think if you worry about it TOO much, it takes all the fun out of it, and it'll show in the orgasm.

Don't worry about it - just fuck it.

Write first.
Then worry about an editor.
when you are happy with it find someone you like their writing and/ or trust and ask them to look it over. You have the advantage of Nirvana in your corner, although I do not know how much editing she does.
As you hang around here, you will get a feel for people and who matches up to you and what you have to say.
People are very very genrerous with their help here.
When you have the story finished, worst case scenario, put up a thread asking for an edit. Many others have done it. find who you work well with. a lot of it is trial and error.

Write first. Have Fun.

IMHO
