First off, go at it with some clippers. use a guide because I've has some, umm.. pinching from clipper blades. Not fun. My wife has one of those little Finishing Touch thingies she got at Walmart or something. That seems to be fairly safe.
The next thing is use a good sharp razor. I don't go shearing down south often, but when I do I always use a new back. I've also found it's best to do it after a shower, as the hair is softer.
Aftward I'd use some kind of after shave, like an AquaVelva or something. Just kidding, don't do that! it'll suck big time!
Seriously though there are a dozen after shave creams that will help. There's a great thread on this but I can't find it. I think Erika recommended a Lubriderm hair inhibiting product, but I can't find it. Don't worry though, I'm sure she'll be along shortly to fill in the blanks.
Just remember, shaving your sack is alot like anal sex - take it slow and lots of lube, er I mean shaving cream.

I know when hubby first shaved, he started with a shaver to trim it, then just took a new razor to it, and there ya have it!

I shave my bits and pieces regularly. I do it in the shower, using regular shaving cream and a Gilette Mk III. I don't use the razor for anything else, not so much because of cleanliness issues as to keep it as sharp as possible.
A couple of quick tips:
1. Safety razor, not electric (and definitely not a straight razor, unless you have some pretty dangerous fetishes). I have no idea what the effect of one of those vibrating Gilettes would be, but I don't recommend experimenting with this. Use a quality razor, not one from a bag of twenty disposables.
2. Warm shower, not cold. I find it easier if my boys aren't all snuggled up into me, because then they're too wrinkled and I can't get all the hair.
3. Flaccid, not erect. If the act of shaving yourself happens to turn you on, make sure you're doing it right after having rubbed one out so that you won't get hard.
4. Shaving cream, not soap. Soap is not slick enough a lubricant and rinses away too easily.
5. Take your time. This is not an activity to rush through. Wounds on the genitals bleed for a long time and sting like hell.
Okay, ready to get started? Here we go!
Begin by showering normally. I have found that it's easier if you've been soaking for a while. Soap up your package and rinse clean. Do not use exfoliating soap - you'll want all the extra layers of skin cells you can get.
Once you're ready to shave, stop the water. Get a good squirt of cream and lather generously.
I generally begin on the right side. Hold the head of the penis and stretch it slightly to tighten the skin, and shave down the shaft to the root. Your instinct tells you to be gentle. Listen to this instinct. Do both sides like this.
Next, hold the penis straight down and get the top, this time shaving up the shaft to the root.
The underside is the most delicate area and takes a little concentration, but it is also very sensitive and removing the hair to increase this is worth it. A light touch is best. You will not get all the hair at once, and that's OK. Many light passes are superior to a few firm passes.
To do the surface of the "balls", you may find it easiest to tighten the skin. This is easily accomplished by encircling your sack with thumb and forefinger and then squeezing/pulling (gently, as always) until the skin on your balls is tightened and smooth. Shave in all directions. Use the equivalent pressure to the resting weight of the razor; practically a feather touch.
You may also want to get the sides, where the scrotum meets the crotch. Be aware, however, that this will cause itching. This area is unused to direct skin-on-skin contact, and stubble is a very uncomfortable thing. Expect more sweating and even a bit of chafing in this area. Wearing briefs will help.
Most of us have hair in the butt-crack as well, but I haven't found a good way to shave this yet. In any event, the stubble may be even more uncomfortable there.
Stubble is a major enemy all around, actually. I am fortunate in that my beard grows very slowly and I imagine the same genetics controls my pubes, so I need only shave once per week to remain comfortable. That's the real problem; once you shave, you must keep it shaved or deal with a month of prickly stubble right where you don't want it most (again, this is assuming you don't have weird fetishes).
When finished, turn the shower back on and rinse. You will discover that you didn't get all the hair. Don't worry about it! You'll get it next time. If you keep shaving until you get every last hair, you'll cut yourself or scrape off too much skin, leaving your balls raw and subject to skin irritation.
On one occasion I coated myself with Vaseline before going to sleep that night. I think this helped somewhat against abrasion and certainly increased the next day's sensitivity.
The main benefit to all this is increased sensitivity. The scrotum will delight in the slightest touch and, if one must use condoms, there will be no more painful hair caught in the rubber. I find that my greatest sensitivity occurs the day after shaving.
The disadvantages have mostly to do with stubble, but there is also the idea that men are "supposed" to be hairy. I am fairly embarrassed to show myself naked in a locker room anymore. Thank you all. All of that is really great information for me... and here i was going to do the shaving at first rise without showering too. For my situation, its the opposite, my gf shaves and is encouraging me to do it as well, or at least once. Hope I get other great tips as well *gotta print this stuff out*

My wife and I have always kept ourselves respectively shaved/trimmed but we have only actually helped each other for the first time a few weeks ago - and WOW! It was great. Once that is complete, I take the warm towel and place it over her pussy for a minute to soften the skin and hair. Take a little bit of shaving cream and warm it in your hands before applying it the desired shaving areas. Be gentile while shaving, especially the closer to the lips that you get. Most times pubic hair grows in different directions, so you may have to hit different angles, but try and use a few strokes as possible to avoid irritation. Make sure to clean the razor in the cup of water inbetween strokes. Listen to her and asker questions while doing this. She will let you know how much pressure you can put on places you might be afraid to venture with a razor. She will then trim me. Now, I have to admit that I have never completely shaved my crotch area, but I generally keep it close-trimmed. For instance, I was surprised to find that my wife thought that it hurt when pulling on the scrotum and stretching it out. As for the boys below it depends. First make sure your hanging loose and your scrotum is not shrivalled. A hot shower works great. Just use shaving cream and a good, sharp razor, Gillet mach3 is my preference. If it is even a little dull get a new one. Just be careful and clean the head, of the razor, out frequently.
I am to the point now where I can dry shave with nothing, water or cream, if it has only been a few days.

Gets 99% of the hair out first go and just a light shave to finish if you want.
Only do it this way cause i want the complete bald look and shaving takes to long,plus i'm to nervous about getting any nicks.
So if razors aren't your thing then maybe the nair or similar product would be the go.

Ha! My wife prefers me to do the honors, but I just can't let go and let her do it for me. I mean, I trust her with my life, but I don't trust her with a razor near my two best friends. Wierd huh? I don't bother shaving my whole situation completely, too dangerous in my opinion. I just use the trimmer from my electric shaver and get really close to the skin. It's just as good without the risk. Just did it yesterday in fact. smmooooooth.
