My Avatar I just created has too many pixiles I do not know how to remove these so that I can have the full picture. (Microsoft picture it 7.0) I can make it work with Arc soft Photo impression (PSF)but then How do I change that back to Jpg?

If I crop in for the 150x150 the amount of picture left is a tiny piece. Hate to show my ignorance but on day three now and ready to explode!

I have read other posts 7 pages of avatar posts, How to..... and nothing.

I would like to post the avatar but more so would like to know how for next time.

Phil, I don't know if this will help but I downloaded the free IrfanView (www.irfanview.com/) program and it's great for AVs ... lets you save it in any format, resize, crop ... kind of like a mini-photoshop.

You might check it out, see if it does the trick.

I have seen this before in other posts. I thought I would not load it because I have like 6 other picture editing programs.

If Zack says it is good. No more question I am loading it right now. I will let you know my results. Thanks

That worked Zack! Much thanks now I can begin my posting once more. Thanks Phildo

I know that Irfanview solved your problem, but I'll comment for others who might have trouble in the future.

First, "Cropping" removes part of the image and is probably not the best way to get to the 150x150 pixel limit. Most programs have a "resize" or "resample" function -- some have both -- and that's the function you need to use for creating an avatar.

For those who use programs with a proprietary format, like Photo Impression, Photoshop, or PhotoDeluxe, you need to export the image to JPeG or GIF format. Usually it's done via the "Save As" selection on the file menu, but some programs use a separate "Export" function to save an image in anything other than their proprietary format.

An Image Management program, Like IrFanview, makes converting and sizing images much easier and more accurate than many of the bundled image editors that come with cameras or scanners. Other, more sophisticated programs are better for manipulating or editing the image itself before a final resizing as an avatar. Each program has strengths and weaknesses and I often use two or three programs to make extensive changes to an image -- like pasting lipmarks on a bare butt and erasing the background.

Weird Harold,

I knew you would have the answer. I understand some things now I did not before. Zacks advice did work fine and that is why my computer is still functional.

With what you just said I am going to try it another way too for fun.

Next question is there a way to remove 750 Phildo pictures from being scatterd into every single known area on a computer? I think I have them all then oops there is another one.

Do a find using a wildcard.

For example, searching on *.jpg will locate all the jpegs on your system. The "*" says match an number of any types of characters so long as the ".jpg" is also part of the name. Searching on *.jpg will match;

1.jpg
abc.jpg
My_big_photo_shoot_with_me_naked.jpg
etc.jpg :D

I don't use XP, but I do know that in both 95 and 98 you could then select multiple files from the find window and delete them.

As for image editing, I use photoshop mostly, its an expensive program so not many people have it. Paint Shop pro is better at converting formats than photoshop is and a lot cheaper. Ifranview is ok if all you want to do is some simple resizing and a little more, but I think it would be too much to call it a mini-photoshop. PSP is a mini-photoshop.

thanks Bombi,

XP has that too Almost the same as 95/98/me the main difference I knotice is the lack of screen savers, Ok and rounded edges on the boxes. I did that what you said and gathered a few I know I have a few more in this box just forget the name is all. No big deal I will spot them before too long.

XP is just a bit more user-friendly hard to delete a file on mistake, and easier to repair. Click and it fixes it self or asks for the disk. Wow the days of Dos are almost gone for the consumer, I remember in 1991 my first computer cost over $8k and was a glorified electric type writer 256 I think being on line you could actually have come close to seeing every site. The program started in Dos and then from the file tree you could choose the area of busness. Lemmings and Lounge lizzard Larry were cool games. Two years later and it was literaly junk not being able to support windows. Today 512m and 130G is a good mid range with too many programs on the computer to even visit them all nevermind on line. Dam I must be getting old!

You can delete pictures from the Browse function of IrFanview. Unfortunatately, you still need to browse each folder indivicully.

There is a program that will show you all files on your drive without regard to directory/folder, but Idon't know if it works with XP or NTFS drives. It's called ZTree and is a clone of the old XTree Gold for DOS and Win 3.1. I use it under Win 98 SE on FAT32 drives, and it fills that niche that Windows and DOS has always left vacant -- the ability to efficiently manage a hard-drive independent of the directory structure.

LOL! Not as old as I. My first computer was an Altair 8080, it hard no hard disk, no floppies, just 1K of RAM and had to be programmed in binary via the front panel.

I thought I was cooking with gas when I bought a second computer based on the Cosmac cpu from RCA. It had a hexidecimal keyboard, a 2 digit hexides display, and a video output!!! Ahhhh those were the days. :)

Oh man, WH, you just brought back some memories! XTree...I had forgotten all about it! :)

PictureIt

PictureIt is very easy and user friendly if you learn a few basic steps in it.
You can streach a picture to fit the frame instead of cropping it. That works better.
Then click save, save to computer, Saveas, and select type .jpg.
Then open options under this, select custom size, maintain aspect ratio, and select the longest side to be 150 pixels (for an avatar), and select the name you want for the file.
(The new size will not be shown on the Picture it screen until you exit and restart the program - just an fyi)

And poof, you have an avatar, like this:
