How to handle plagerism?

I'm fairly new here with just two stories posted, but a reader has already alerted me that my first story "My Biker Momma" has already been plagerized in a story called "Loving My Beautiful Mom" by one Tad_Unreliable. I read his story and it's definitely mine with a facelift. I don't know whether to be pissed or flattered (if, as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery).

I have two questions:
1. Is there a procedure to handle plagerism within Literotica? I'm not sure how to proceed or if it's even worth the trouble.

2. Does this occur alot on Literotica?

Thanks,

PM (not email) Laurel with a link to both your story, and the other one. She'll take care of it, if it is indeed plagarism.

It doesn't happen a lot, no, but it does happen occasionally.

Is there not also a link at the bottom of each page "Report this story" or something like that?

yes, that's an option as well, but a link to the original story would have to be pasted in the explanation box.

Incest is a cat I hate reading, bt I compared these two side by side- Ahab is right, this lovely little arsewipe ripped him off.

The arsewipe also has another story, which just came out. May want to check recent I/T cat submissions for being ripped.

You've possibly done this already but CHECK THE DATES.

I know I read a story a while ago that seemed to rip off one of mine, with virtually identical phrases and similiar scenes etc. The other story was published here before mine. (I hadn't read it previously to that)

Good question

Apparently not. I have had entire stories copied and posted on other web site threads, without benefit of explanation - including a simple, I love this story! My efforts, todate, at sequelching this activity have resulted in no return mailings (replys). I can appreciate where you are coming from Ahab but, as I stated to one concerned whistle blower - having copyright means very little, apparently. Literotica and other sites don't seem to care, except to hold you to their time period. Free site or not, some safe guarg needs to be in place to stop rampant copy right infringement, no matter the reasoning! I have suggested to Literotica personnel that a simple block would suffice. The block would prohibit new comers (and others) from simple copy/paste activities via a pass word - not too tough I would imagine. The author and only the author should be able to copy (for whatever reason) his or her story and do with it as he/she likes...Make sense?

If you had bothered to do a little research (old thread do exist on this topic), you would have known that all you have to do is PM (not email) Laurel a link to where your story has been placed/stolen, and she'll take care of it.

I know....how about taking some responsibility on yourself, and notifying sites where your work has been plagarized? Oh, wait, that's too much work.

Sorry for the offense (and your need for sarcasm), Cloudy! Wow...FYI - I have gone the notification route with no results. I will admit that I do not spend countless hours writing and/or starting threads; and, as such is the case, my knowledge of the ins & outs is certainly lacking. (I don't see a need for apology either) Perhaps, with your infinate knowledge you could educate a stupid old sot like me. I mean, I'd truely love to find any "clearly defined" written sentence/paragraph/article - or whatever, describing the sites policy(s) on this topic. Further, describing the exact and appropriate steps to rectify a wrong. Sorry to have raised your ire but, I stand by what I wrote. Plagerism is bad enough in its own right, and perhaps difficult to prove in some cases...The ability to copy/paste entire stories is just wrong, without the consent of the author/writer. :)

If you're that protective about your stories just don't post them on such a public forum. If you do, and they get stolen, then contact the owner/moderator of each site publishing a copy of the stolen story and quit whining to us. We're in the same boat, we have no clout or abilities greater than yours and we must pursue the same route to rectify our own wrongs. Why not take the advice already offered and pursue your stolen stories as vigorously as you bitch on here.

Personally, I wouldn't really care if my stories were stolen. I WOULD care if some porn site stole them, but not if they were stolen by Literary Reveiw. :D

My bad...Consider the issue dropped. Thanks for all of the positive advise/ feedback.

My technique for handling plagiarism is to flatly deny that I do it.

How to handle plagiarism?

Invest in a text scanner. You can plagiarize just about any printed material without having to read it all, much less type it.

Or you can just cut and paste. Or, as I said earlier, invest in a text scanner. You can plagiarize just about any printed material without having to read it all, much less type it.

Don't be tempted to correct spellin mistakes, otherwise it isn't rally plagiarizm.

Has anyone found a way to copy text in Adobe Reader? There are some e-books I'd like to sell as my own, but without the ability to copy and paste, it's too time-consuming to be profitable.

Yes, shereads and me are one and the same person, but for fucks sake please don't tell her, she'll just start blubbing again.
