How to deal with a newcomer

I just discovered that my potential boyfriend is a bottom--though I had guessed it a while ago. But he's new to the BDSM scene--I had to explain basic terms. This is an odd situation to me because it confirms that I can top, which I have never done before--I have only ever bottomed.

So I guess my questions are these: What should I tell him about BDSM (what we did was S&M though I have a very strong suspicion that bondage will also be in the picture)? What kind of advice can you give me as a brand-new switch for topping someone who is very new to all this (other than the obvious safe, sane, consensual stuff)?

I'm not heavily experienced myself, so this is all very new to me.
