Hi - I've bee through the FAQ'S and don't see how to do this. Any ideas?

Thanks,
John

Resubmit the entire story with EDIT added to the title. Nominate your preferred category, add a Note to the Editor saying what you're doing. Laurel reserves the right to say no, but will usually oblige.

Exactly that

EB explains it well :)

I have had one occasion to use it. By adding EDIT to the title and selecting the category and making the comments the original story should be re-assigned in the new category. I am not totally sure but I think you will probably also keep the votes and comments to date for the initial submission in the category.

As category can be important to some it may lead to some comments about the change but you can always respond to the reason why.

Brutal One

Yes, votes, comments and scores are all kept. The only meta-data change is the category.

My understanding is that it will not post on the new story hub of the new category, so you won't get that bump in views and votes, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, somebody, please!

That too is correct. Edits (and a category change request is an edit) always take longer, so by the time it's processed it would be most unlikely to make the new category front page. Unless it was a veeeeery slow moving category.

Hi Laurel - do you have any idea how long the story submission and review queue is?

It took them six days to change the category when I made a mistake. That's pretty fast for them. Probably still hurt the score because the readers were initially confused. Also, after the first week or so, most of the readers move on. Sometimes you have to take your lumps.

The Geek Pride event starts on the 14th, I think, so that could be a factor. However, they must be using those rumored bots a lot because they've got new stories down to about four days, maybe three.

yea its been almost 6 days now and i dont want to write more till this one gets changed. i know that makes no sense but i just feel weird writing a chapter that is going to a different category than the one before it and the are sequential.

If you’re intending on making the series extended you might want to move on to your next chapter while you wait, or start a new project entirely. Edits are typically in the back of the que and last priority, it could be two weeks at the least before your story edit goes through.

As seraph_nocturne notes, Edits are always low priority, and usually take two weeks to process, even for regular authors.

I wouldn't wait: submit the next chapter into the new preferred category - the joining up will still get done, and the old chapter will catch up eventually.

It's the latest chapter that gets into the new story lists, not the old one. By delaying, you're just delaying new eyes falling on the story.
