How to categorize this story?

I'm currently working on a story that will be several chapters long. The first chapter has both f/f and m/f scenes, as will subsequent chapters. Later chapters also fit into interracial and incest categories (I think - do adoptive siblings who only really form a relationship as adults actually count as incest?). I've considered just posting as a novella, but I don't know that it would reach as many readers that way. Should I just post across categories? If so, how do I decide which category, when more than one us applicable?

Yes, there are writers here who spread their chaptered stories over several categories and who say they think it works OK. It likely depends on how divergent the categories are. I have one chaptered novel on here that hits most of the categories and I put it in Novels and Novellas and it's doing OK, although different chapters do better than others.

Can't help you pick a better category of more than one for either for a chapter or the whole thing blindly. That requires someone familiar with the content.

I can tell you for sure that adoptive siblings who don't really have a relationship in the home will be ( at best ) ignored in Incest. The "taboo" part of the category is more or less non-existent. They want blood relations -- the closer the better.

The farther you stray from the nuclear family, the less they're interested.

Interracial is one of those categories you can skip over, unless you're seriously stressing the interracial element. If it's two people having sex and they just happen to have different racial backgrounds, you can go with whatever other category may be appropriate.

As part of a multi-chapter story with many partners ( if the central character is involved in all these couplings ) it's even less important to worry about utilizing the interracial category on cross-category posting. Again, unless you're really hitting the interracial element hard with prejudice from other people or overbearing stereotypes.

Jumping into the Lesbian Sex category for a chapter of a story that also involves men is going to result in the chapter there languishing - and possibly getting some less than flattering commentary.

Many of the readers there want no evidence of a man involved with either of the women. If there's a man who's of sexual interest within the chapter, you dramatically increase the odds of ill words, even if he never has sex with anyone in the chapter. If it's a middle chapter and there's been hetero sex earlier, you're going to have low numbers in the category because of those readers who don't want to read straight sex. They won't read the earlier chapters, and won't bother with the one in Lesbian Sex because they're jumping into the middle of a story.

That's actually an issue with many categories, including Interracial and Incest. Those readers are quite isolated in their interests, and they're not going to care much about the other stuff. Every step along the way as you hop into categories like that, some of your readers are going to fall off, and there's not a good chance of replacing them in those more isolated kink categories.

If every chapter is 1on1 sex, then ( as much as I hate to suggest it ) Erotic Couplings may be your best option. You'll get more reads than Novels and Novellas, but the readers there are still used to fairly wide-ranging themes.

If there's any group sex, that changes the dynamics yet again.

Just some things to consider. Without reading the whole thing, there's no way to do more than point out potential pitfalls.

Is the character perhaps 40 or so? You may be able to take advantage of the Mature category, if so. While the category is more geared toward 1on1 love/lust and leans heavily toward preferring age difference stories, as long as the main character is of the appropriate age, there's quite a bit of latitude to branch out.

Thanks, both of you. I've been leaning toward posting the first chapter in Erotic Couplings, so I may just post the whole story there.
