Hi I’m Alexi, I just joined the site and am looking forward to sharing my work on the site. I’ve never used a site like this before so would very much appreciate the advice of more experienced members as to what are the common faux pas and I indiscretions new members fall into when joining the site. Any advice would be much appreciated.
I shall be uploading my first story shortly and I hope you enjoy it (if it pops up on your radar).

Keep clam and proof-read.

Once you've submitted a story, make sure no edits will be necessary. Every edit places it at the back of the queue and the publication will be delayed.

It will take a while for your first story to get approved. Be patient.

Also, study the tags and the categories so you know how to effectively use them.

1. Read the blue-highlighted sticky threads that are permanently placed at the top of this forum. There's a lot of information there.

2. Make sure your story submissions do not violate the basic content rules, i.e., no underage sex, no bestiality, no snuff, etc.

3. Understand how categories work. Read this: https://literotica.com/s/love-your-readers-categories.

4. Make sure the stories you submit are in good shape -- punctuation, spelling, grammar, etc.

5. Feel free to ask questions on this forum.

I'll go a little deeper. The two basic questions for LIT authors: 1) What do I want to say? 2) Why am I here? The first is the excuse for any story. The last is tricky.

* The voices in my head demand I write and post stuff for no pay.
* I have nasty ideas to arouse, annoy, or anger readers.
* I am working to improve my storytelling skills.
* I crave the adulation of readers and will pander shamelessly.
* My stories stopped selling on Amazon so I'll give them away here.
* Something else.

I'll suggest: Read the stickies, and old Author's Hangout threads of past gripes. Read top-rated stories to see what works in each category. Be aware that of anything you write, some will hate it, some may love it, and most won't care. Maintain no illusions. Have fun!

Don't fret too much about "what will readers want". There's an audience for just about anything you might write, and others who'll hate it. You're not getting paid so you might as well write what you enjoy.

In the context of the writers' forums; arrive quietly, take a look around at the folk at the party, get an idea of the personalities, the ebb and flow of the place, and ease yourself into the conversation. (In the context of the other forum places, I don't have a clue - they seem to be a different species altogether, from what I can see.)

We've had several rather spectacular arrivals recently, where people arrived with attitude and ego, trumpets and pronouncements, all "Look at me, I'm amazing, I'm going to tell you how it all works;" who proceeded to put both feet right in it and ended up flat on their ass. They were good entertainment for the regulars, who'd seen it all before, but they're no longer here.

Your approach, on the other hand, is far more sensible and will get a warmer welcome - here, have a glass of wine :).

If you PM someone, don't send naked pics unless you've asked first! :D

3. Understand how categories work. Read this: https://literotica.com/s/love-your-readers-categories.

To follow up on SD's third point, once you understand the kind of stories that fit in each category, try to get a feel for each category's audience. For example, Loving Wives readers are widely reputed to downvote stories and write horribly misogynistic comments. Incest/Taboo has the largest audience by far, but no one really knows why. Romance and Sci-Fi/Fantasy both have small audiences, but the readers are very patient with long stories with a slow build up, and they vote and comment at a higher than average rate.

I think it's safe to assume that you'd like feedback on the stories you submit, so consider the kind of readers you would like feedback from when deciding what categories to write in.

That's my two cents anyway (that's probably more than it's worth). Welcome to Literotica and the AH.

Thanks for your reply. I did struggle to think which category to put it in. I figured ‘Fetish’, because it’s a bimbofication story. I didn’t know where else it might fit. Loving couplings didn’t seem quite right!

One thing so far unmentioned.
Be very careful if you venture on to the General Board.

Your first mistake was coming to the GB and pretending to be 'new' to Lit. Nobody that has never been to Lit before does that. NOBODY. It's a sure sign of a veteran GB member with a new ID seeking attention. So, who are you? Que? BB?

For whatever reason, site glitch, who knows, this wasn't in the AH when I first saw it.

Thanks RubenR. I am new to the site. I’ve not been a member here before or really had much to do with the site. I was just looking for a community to share my attempts at erotica with and the general board seemed as good a place as any to start. It’s really that simple.

I'm not sure what the General Board is for. I seldom venture there and when I do I'm mostly appalled at what I find. You're better off hanging around this place.

Nope, the General Board isn't for that at all, unless you like being hazed for discussing writing on a writing site. Most GB posters don't realize--or care--that this is a story site.

Be very careful wherever you venture. There are many lovely beaches and meadows here but there are also swamps and alligators. But on the whole the beaches and meadows win.

How to avoid the pitfalls of a new member of literotica
A text nazi er I mean copy editor might want that rewritten:

How to avoid pitfalls as a new member of Literotica
or
How can a new member of Literotica avoid pitfalls?

Luckily, none are in-house at the moment. But just wait. The grammar patrol is diligent.
