How to Add a Story to a Series?

Hi all. There's probably a thread addressing this question, but a quick search didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I wrote a standalone story, but it's gotten very positive attention, and the woman I wrote it for loved it, so I'd like to start a series with it. I just started a sequel to it, and created a series, but how do I add the first story to the series? The new story won't be finished or published for a while, so I assume I can still make it the first in a series. Do I need to contact Laurel directly? Or is there some feature I'm not finding to do that?

Thanks in advance for any advice. Hope everyone's having a good day.

From the FAQ:

If you’d like to add one or more stories using the Series Management screen, simply do the following:

  1. Click the “Series” menu item in the Member Control Panel.
  2. On the Series List, find the Series that you would like to manage and click the Gear Icon to the right of the Series Title.
  3. Click the “Manage Series Works” button to the right of the Series Title.
  4. Click the “Add Works” button to go to the “Add Works” screen.
  5. On the Add Works screen, click the plus (“+”) symbol to the right of any work title to add it to the Series. If the work is already in another Series, adding it to the current Series will remove it from the previous one (each work can be in only one Series).
  6. If you click the checkbox that says “Hide works already in a Series”, you will only see your works that are not in a Series.
  7. Once you’ve added all of the works you want in the Series, click the “Reorder Series” or “Back to Series” buttons, depending on what you want to do next.
Series have to be moderated and approved as well, so there might be limited functionality until it is green-lit. I don't think Laurel does them every day, it often seems to take about a week of pending. Cover art can take even longer.

Thank you so much for tracking this down for me. 👍👍👍

If you want to change the title of your standalone story (My Story to My Story Part 1, for example) you can message Laurel for assistance or enter your request in the "Note to Admin" field when you submit the second part.

Thanks!

You might need to do it a couple of times, to figure out how the manual function works. It's not super intuitive. The first time I tried, I took three times to get it right. Don't worry, though, you can't accidentally delete any stories.

Appreciate the extra heads-up. That would be frustrating if I didn't know to expect it.

Once you get your series established, you’ll be able to publish subsequent stories straight into a series from the Story Submission screen.
